POSITION ACCOUNTABILITIES AND ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Course Catalog description
In this course, students will learn the technicalities in creating a drawing for production, also known as a tech pack. Students will learn how to develop a design concept for the next step of production. The tech pack will make the communication process more efficient between the designer and the manufacturer/prototyping.

Course Overview
Tech pack design is an integral part of garment manufacturing. A tech pack is a non verbal tool to ensure that the designs will be executed to the full satisfaction of the creative director and the company’s DNA and standards. A tech pack designer has to be able to translate from a rough sketch or rough try-out into a reproducible piece of clothing. The production team is always tasked to communicate between the creative and the creator of the pieces as sometimes details and wordings get lost in translation. Learning how to draw “flats” (technical drawings) by hand and via virtual tools will be most important for the tech pack designer. The tech pack designer also has to demonstrate a significant knowledge in product categories, fabrication standards and an overall fashion knowledge.

Course Learning Outcomes
Upon completion of this course, students will be able to:

Identify specific details in garments by name and meaning. Helping to streamline the work process by using universal garment terminology.

Interpret a rough sketch into a producible piece of clothing without complicated explanation.

Properly articulate the fabrication process.
