Apparel Design Associate Jobs in New York at Shanghai Shenda America
A New York-based Private Label manufacturer is seeking a Design Associate. We are located in the heart of Manhattan’s Garment District; we are an apparel company that is multifaceted, specializing in private label and brands for all men and ladies apparel classifications.
Design Responsibilities & Creative Support:
- Assist the Senior Designer in developing seasonal concepts, color palettes, trend direction, and assortment strategy.
- Create accurate sketches and CADs, ensuring clarity for all users
- Support design development for men’s and women’s products
- Contribute creative ideas and trend insights
Product Development:
- Build, update, and maintain tech packs
- Participate in sample fittings
Trend, Market & Customer Research:
- Conduct ongoing research on sportswear trends, silhouettes, fabrics, and competitive retail to inform design direction.
- Support seasonal presentations with mood boards, theme development, and inspiration materials
Cross-Functional Collaboration:
- Partner with Product Development, Technical Design, and Sourcing/Production to support smooth execution from design to final sample
- Communicate with vendors to clarify design details or to request development updates when needed
- Help maintain clear documentation, organized seasonal files, and accurate line information throughout the development cycle. Maintain fabric, trim, and strike-off libraries, ensuring materials are organized and accessible.
Qualifications:
- 3+ years of experience in apparel design; experience in sportswear, value-channel, club channel & big box retailers preferred.
- Strong technical sketching and CAD skills (Illustrator required, Photoshop a plus)
- Proficiency in Outlook & Microsoft Office required and Apple Numbers preferred
- Understanding of garment construction, fabrics, and production preferred
- Strong trend awareness and ability to translate trends into commercial, customer-appropriate products.
- Strong organization, time management, and multi-tasking skills
- Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and meet deadlines
- Strong communication and presentation skills
- Excellent sense of color, ability to put together a color palette, comment on lab dips, etc.
- Self-motivated with the ability to take initiative and work independently
- Proactive problem solver with strong attention to detail
- Knowledge of garment construction and production processes preferred
- Highly organized, proactive, and able to work in a fast-paced environment with a lean team.

Salary $80,000-$110,000
Actual salary will vary depending on factors including but not limited to experience, specialized skills, and internal alignment.
Pay: $80,000.00 – $110,000.00 per year
