Portland-based, women-owned apparel business seeks a versatile Designer to support our growing undergarment lines.

You’ll stay on top of current color and fashion trends, developing silhouettes and styles that resonate with our customers and uphold the high-quality standards we’re known for. Our company has two branded lines and creates private label collections for retailers, giving you valuable experience designing for both brick-and-mortar and online markets with each customer’s brand DNA in mind.

This is a part-time, contract position with flexible hours—you’ll primarily work from home on your own schedule, with the exception of technical design requirements.

Essential Functions

  • Develop seasonal color palettes, silhouettes, and prints at competitive price points
  • Create accurate CADs and detailed specs for factory communication and buyer presentations
  • Build and maintain complete tech packs
  • Conduct market and trend research to support on-brand product development
  • Partner with sales, merchandising, and technical design to translate customer needs, brand direction, and target costs into commercially viable products.
  • Manage and track lab dips, strike-offs, and bulk color approvals
  • Review, comment on, and approve fit samples, PP samples, and TOPs, resolving fit, construction, and quality issues to ensure standards are met.
  • Communicate clearly with factories and vendors regarding specs, fit comments, materials, trims, packaging, costing, and construction details.
  • Track multiple development timelines, maintain accurate development records and sample status, and coordinate styles from concept through production handoff.
  • Source new fabrics, laces, and trims as needed
  • Update and refresh existing styles, prints, and assortments in line with trend direction

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Apparel Design or related field (equivalent industry experience will be considered)
  • Proficiency in CAD drafting
  • Ability to clearly explain design intent, incorporate feedback, and collaborate across teams
  • Strong understanding of fabric, lace, trims, garment construction, fit, and technical specifications
  • Working knowledge of the apparel product development cycle, from concept to production
  • Keen understanding of undergarment trends across a range of ages and aesthetics
  • Experience communicating directly with overseas factories throughout development.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple concurrent projects and deadlines.
  • Familiarity with sourcing materials and designing to target cost.
  • Experience designing intimate apparel or other close-to-body garments preferred.
  • Ability to work independently in a remote contract environment and attend in-person fit or technical sessions as needed.
  • Experience with textile or graphic print design preferred, but not required
