Reports To: VP of Operations

Position Summary:

The Apparel Production Designer is responsible for translating approved product concepts into accurate, production-ready technical packages that ensure quality, consistency, and efficient manufacturing. This role works closely with Product Development, Production, and Sales to develop garments from concept through production while maintaining brand standards, fit, construction, and cost objectives. The ideal candidate has strong technical garment construction knowledge, exceptional attention to detail, and experience managing multiple styles simultaneously.

Duties & Responsibilities:Technical Design

  • Create and maintain detailed Tech Packs for all apparel styles.
  • Develop garment specifications, construction details, measurements, grading, and sewing instructions.
  • Produce technical sketches (flats) using Adobe Illustrator.
  • Prepare Bill of Materials (BOMs) including fabrics, trims, labels, packaging, and decoration details.
  • Ensure all production documentation is complete, accurate, and version controlled.

Product Development

  • Collaborate with Product Managers and Sales to translate product concepts into manufacturable garments.
  • Review artwork placement, embellishment methods, and branding requirements.
  • Evaluate construction methods and recommend improvements for manufacturability and quality.
  • Participate in fabric, trim, and color selection.

Production Support

  • Support factories throughout production by answering technical questions.
  • Review factory comments and resolve production issues.
  • Ensure production follows approved specifications.
  • Assist with quality standards and manufacturing consistency.

Cross-Functional Collaboration

  • Work closely with:
  • Design
  • Production Team
  • Sales
  • Attend product review and development meetings.

Quality Assurance

  • Ensure products meet company quality standards.
  • Verify measurements, construction, trims, labeling, and packaging.
  • Identify opportunities to improve product consistency and reduce production issues.
  • Assist in root cause analysis for quality concerns.

Documentation

Maintain accurate records including:

  • Tech Packs
  • Size Specifications
  • Measurement Tolerances
  • Construction Standards
  • Sample Comments
  • Revision History
  • Packaging Instructions

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Fashion Design, Technical Design, Apparel Design, or related field (preferred).
  • 3+ years of apparel technical design or production design experience.
  • Strong understanding of garment construction and manufacturing processes.
  • Experience working with overseas factories.
  • Advanced Adobe Illustrator skills.
  • Experience creating production Tech Packs.
  • Strong understanding of fit, grading, and measurement specifications.
  • Excellent organizational and project management skills.
  • Exceptional attention to detail.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects in a fast-paced environment.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with custom apparel or promotional products.
  • Knowledge of screen printing, embroidery, heat transfer, sublimation, and other decoration methods.
  • Understanding of sourcing and production timelines.
