Title: Art Director

Company: MWD Creative Agency

Location: Toronto, Ontario, Canada

Who We Are

At MWD Creative, we don't just create events, we craft unforgettable narratives that transform brands into experiences people can't stop talking about. For over two decades, our award-winning creative collective has been the secret behind some of the world's most prestigious brand activations.

From the bustling streets of Toronto to stages across the globe, we've helped iconic brands like LVMH, L'Oréal, Estée Lauder Companies, Chanel, Disney, AMOREPACIFIC and Procter & Gamble tell their most compelling stories through immersive, beautifully orchestrated experiences.

What Sets Us Apart

We're obsessed with the details that matter. Every texture, every lighting cue, every moment of surprise, we believe that extraordinary experiences live in the seamless integration of a thousand perfect details.

We think beyond the event. Our full-service approach spans experiential marketing, graphic design, 3D design, pop-up production, fashion show production, backstage coordination, and strategic styling.

We thrive on collaboration. Our studio buzzes with the energy of forward-thinking creatives who challenge each other to push boundaries.

About the Role

MWD Creative Agency is seeking an Art Director to shape the visual worlds behind our immersive brand experiences, pop-ups, creative mailers, and content-driven moments.

This role leads the creative vision across physical environments, digital extensions, and campaign assets, ensuring every experience is not only visually striking but also culturally relevant and emotionally resonant.

We are particularly drawn to creatives with a refined, elevated aesthetic, with work that reflects strong taste across luxury, beauty, fashion, or premium consumer brands.

You are a highly visual thinker with a strong design foundation and an exceptional eye for detail. You notice the things others don’t: the texture of a surface, the tone of a colour under lighting, the styling of a shelf, the type choice on a small sign. You understand that these micro-decisions are what make an experience feel elevated, authentic, and truly on-brand.

From initial concept to final install, you build cohesive visual worlds that feel intentional at every touchpoint. You’re just as comfortable developing big ideas as you are ensuring creative integrity is maintained through production and final execution, whether on-site or on set.

This role is ideal for someone whose work is driven by taste, cultural awareness, and a strong creative point of view, not just execution.

This role requires someone who can fluidly shift between brands, industries, and creative styles, while staying deeply tapped into pop culture, social behaviour, fashion, design, and global creative trends that shape how audiences connect with brands in real life.

What You’ll Do

  • Concept and execute culturally relevant, visually compelling creative across experiential environments, pop-ups, custom fabrication, print, digital, social, and content platforms
  • Define and lead the visual identity of brand activations from environment styling and spatial storytelling to graphics, materials, and content moments
  • Build rich mood boards that establish the full visual language of a project: imagery, colour systems, typography, materials, textures, lighting references, motion, and styling
  • Translate brand strategy into immersive, physical brand worlds that feel cohesive across every detail — signage, props, graphics, product display, finishes, and interactive moments
  • Guide and collaborate with graphic designers, 3D designers, and producers to ensure the creative vision carries through renderings, fabrication, graphics, and final install
  • Develop and present pitch decks, creative proposals, and visual presentations to internal teams and clients
  • Be present during key production moments and installs, ensuring the final build reflects the creative intent down to the smallest detail
  • Stay ahead of cultural shifts, design trends, social behaviours, and emerging creative technologies to keep MWD’s work progressive and industry-leading

What You Bring

  • 3+ years of experience in a creative agency or in-house environment across experiential, retail, branding, or integrated campaigns
  • A portfolio that showcases immersive thinking, visual storytelling, and concept-to-execution world-building – A portfolio is required for consideration. Applications without a portfolio will not be reviewed.
  • An extremely detail-oriented mindset — you care about the small touches that make an environment feel real, thoughtful, and authentic, not generic
  • Strong design instincts with expertise in layout, branding, typography, composition, and visual hierarchy
  • Experience developing pitch decks and presenting creative work confidently to both internal stakeholders and clients
  • The ability to juggle multiple brands and concepts at once, shifting visual styles while maintaining creative excellence
  • Excellent communication skills, able to clearly articulate visual ideas and provide confident creative direction
  • A collaborative attitude, comfortable leading creatives while embracing feedback and evolving ideas
  • A deep passion for art, design, fashion, culture, and experiential storytelling and how they influence real-world brand engagement.
