Assistant Colorist, Hair Color Bar

The Assistant Colorist at Madison Reed Hair Color Bar supports Licensed Colorists and Shift Leads to provide a seamless guest experience from arrival to departure. The Assistant learns services and works toward promotion to Licensed Colorist within 3‑9 months. The role may be full‑time or part‑time based on business needs and requires availability during peak times.

Compensation

Base hourly pay plus commissions and tips; potential earnings range from $23‑$24 per hour, contingent on Salon performance, tenure, and time behind the chair.

Responsibilities

  • Demonstrate and develop teamwork skills to provide a guest experience aligned with the values of Love, Joy, Trust, Courage and Responsibility.
  • Assist with behind‑chair services such as finishing services, shampooing and conditioning, styling, blowouts, hot‑tool styling, treatment and toner services, and add‑on product application.
  • Contribute to achieving monthly sales goals and key performance indicators, including retail sales, services and memberships.
  • Ensure the Hair Color Bar meets company standards for cleanliness, merchandising, inventory and asset security.
  • Adhere to Madison Reed systems, policies, procedures and protocols.
  • Drive revenue by increasing the average service ticket through additional services, sales of unlimited roots memberships, subscriptions and home hair‑care products.
  • Take a proactive approach by demonstrating a willingness to learn and complete the Assistant Colorist to Colorist training, mastering color theory and behind‑chair application skills.

Qualifications

  • Active cosmetology license in the state in which you are applying.
  • Entry‑level experience in any customer‑service or retail‑sales environment; salon or beauty‑industry experience preferred.
  • Excellent communication, strong problem‑solving and people skills in a fast‑paced retail or salon environment.
  • Comfortable operating point‑of‑sale systems.
  • Fluency in English.

Physical Demands

Stand, walk, bend and twist at the waist for extended periods; manipulate fingers and hands, reach wrists and arms, and lift or move up to ten pounds. Occasionally sit, kneel, stoop, crouch, lift, push or pull up to ten pounds. Communicate regularly with guests via ongoing conversations and consultations.
