ASSISTANT DESIGNER – Dresses Jobs in Los Angeles, CA at Confidental Company
Purpose:
We are looking for a great addition to our dress design team! We are a department store wholesale brand specializing in special occasion dresses, which includes everything from Prom, homecoming, holiday, wedding guest dresses & everything in between. The Assistant Designer will work side by side with our in-house design team to create mass-market dresses that embody our brand & customer. We are looking for someone with a passion for fashion and trend forecasting based on social influence & seasonality.
Essential Job Functions & Responsibilities:
- Work closely with the designer to develop & execute the product from start to finish.
- Supporting the Designer with organizing inspiration, sketches, fabrics, trims, and developments
- Assist with research for current trends relevant to our brand, fabrics, colors, and silhouettes
- Maintain daily communication, and follow up with requests from overseas for samples, trim, and fabrics.
- Follow up with requests from local fabric vendors on orders for new samples and fabric developments
- Keep track and organize chart of new developments ETA’s & to keep projects running smoothly and on time
- Update internal line sheets to ensure necessary groupings of fabrications are covered
- Maintain fabric yardage and counter swatches sample library for specific seasons.
- Source new fabrics, order colors for fabric development, and send artwork for sample yardage.
- Manage and organize fabric room.
- Assist with solid color and printed CAD’s
- Create illustrator flats for styles.
- Prepare documents, samples, boards, and/ or swatches for meetings
- Tracking all developments
- Sourcing materials and trims from the local market when needed
- Administrative tasks that are delegated
- Pulling best sellers and working with Designers to update styles to maximize sales
- Understanding designs from a technical perspective
- Organize & collaborate on weekly tear sheets & Execution
- Assisting the Designer with vendor appointments, sourcing fabrics, and trims to fall into the trend direction given.
- Collaborating with the Fashion Team in creating Mood/Trend Boards as needed.
Key Qualifications & Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree in fashion design.
- 1-2 year’s experience required.
- Excellent communication skills to build vendor relationships
- Willing to support the fashion with day-to-day tasks.
- Excellent organizational skills
- Knowledge of fabrications, silhouettes, colorways, construction techniques, and trim.
- CAD/ Graphic skills/ proficient in Illustrator, Photoshop, PowerPoint, and Microsoft Excel.
- Must be a hands-on, upbeat team player.
- Must be hardworking and detail-oriented
- Ability to multitask and shift priorities.

Experience:
- Garment construction: 1 year (Preferred)
- Fashion design: 1 year (Preferred)
- Adobe Illustrator: 1 year (Preferred)
