Barber/Hair Stylist
Men’s cuts are a big part of our guest experience at our Salon on Bald Head Island, NC and we have never had a barber and would love to have a male-focused professional who can offer quality men’s cuts, fades, shaves. We are also adding a Head Spa this season, so that may be an additional opportunity for income if interested! Join our team for the spring/summer – or stay on board and work part-time year-round! Island Retreat is a fast-paced seasonally-driven Day Spa and Salon with a team of reliable, fun, and professional staff.
We are currently filling a position for up to two (2) shifts per week: Sunday or Tuesday are available regularly, with some pick-up shifts possible on other days.
The Salon at Island Retreat is recently renovated! Now featuring a uniquely designed space – created for professionals looking to either supplement mainland work seasonally – or for someone ready to make Island Retreat their forever salon. The salon is a low-drama, high-performance space. Our clients are well-traveled tourists, local homeowners, retirees, teenagers/college students looking for fresh styles, men whose wives want their hair cut for family pictures, and everything else in between! Also within the salon is a space for easy brow and facial waxing, and we are adding head spa services soon!
Our ideal candidate would have 2+ years’ experience behind the chair; plus:
Proficiency in modern color techniques (experience with Redken Shades EQ, Kevin Murphy COLOR.ME would be beneficial)
Proficiency in hair straightening and curling methods, using hot irons and curlers
Knowledge of a wide range of haircuts, suitable for all hair lengths
Up-to-date with industry trends
Excellent communication skills
Physical stamina to stand for long hours
Flexibility to work in shifts
Valid, Active NC Cosmetology License or Barber license.
Ultimately, you will ensure all customers leave our salon satisfied with our services and feel happy with their new looks. Our customers are very loyal – do good work and they will plan their vacation around their hair appointments – seriously!
COMPENSATION
– W2 or 1099 options; Base Commission based on experience, portfolio, recommendations. Hybrid of base hourly pay is available for the right person.
– Retail commission with no sales minimums!
– Ferry transportation & parking covered ($30/day value)
– generous tips from clients (20-25% is the standard for our guests)
– Continuing education cost share, special certification cost-share may also be available for the right candidates.
