As a key member of our merchandising team, you’ll influence product assortment strategy, category performance, vendor partnerships, and promotional initiatives across multiple beauty categories.

Essential Responsibilities

  • Own the sales, profitability, inventory management, and overall business performance of assigned product categories.
  • Develop and execute category management strategies that drive revenue growth, margin improvement, and inventory optimization.
  • Analyze sales trends, customer purchasing behavior, and market opportunities to make data-driven merchandising decisions.
  • Build annual and seasonal merchandise plans that support company objectives and maximize category performance.
  • Establish and maintain strong vendor partnerships while negotiating programs, promotions, and business opportunities.
  • Manage multiple brands and product categories within a dynamic omnichannel retail environment.
  • Collaborate with Marketing to develop integrated promotional campaigns across email, direct mail, digital marketing, e-commerce, and social media channels.
  • Conduct trend analysis, competitive research, and new product evaluations to identify emerging opportunities within the beauty industry.
  • Source and onboard new brands and product categories that align with customer demand and company growth strategies.
  • Partner with Merchandise, Marketing, Store Operations, and Leadership teams to execute strategic initiatives.
  • Support field teams through timely communication, problem resolution, and training initiatives.
  • Develop and coordinate vendor-supported educational programs to improve product knowledge and sales performance.
  • Maintain accurate forecasting, reporting, and inventory planning.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications

  • Must reside in the Kansas City metropolitan area.
  • Minimum three years of retail buying, merchandise planning, category management, or merchandising experience.
  • Experience working directly with national brands and vendors in a multi-channel, omnichannel, or e-commerce retail environment.
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret sales data, inventory metrics, and financial reports.
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel, including PivotTables, VLOOKUP/XLOOKUP, data analysis, and reporting.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, and business presentation development.
  • Exceptional organizational, project management, and prioritization skills.
  • Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong negotiation, relationship-building, and vendor management skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to collaborate effectively across departments and organizational levels.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with JDA, Blue Yonder, or other retail merchandise planning systems.
  • Experience in beauty, cosmetics, skincare, salon, fashion, consumer products, or specialty retail industries.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Business, Merchandising, Marketing, Retail Management, Supply Chain, or related field.
  • Experience with assortment planning, forecasting, inventory management, and promotional planning.
