Overview
A Diamond Buyer is responsible for sourcing, purchasing, and managing diamonds for retail or wholesale purposes. They play a crucial role in ensuring the quality, authenticity, and sourcing of lab grown diamonds. This position requires a keen eye for detail, strong negotiation skills, and extensive knowledge of the diamond market.
Key Responsibilities
Sourcing Diamonds: Identify and evaluate potential suppliers of high-quality lab grown diamonds.
Quality Assessment: Use specialized tools and expertise to assess the cut, clarity, color, and carat weight of diamonds.
Negotiation: Negotiate prices, terms, and conditions with suppliers to secure the best possible deals.
Inventory Management: Maintain and manage inventory levels, ensuring a diverse range of diamonds is available to meet market demand.
Market Analysis: Monitor market trends, pricing fluctuations, and industry developments to make informed purchasing decisions.
Supplier Relationships: Build and maintain strong relationships with suppliers to ensure a reliable supply chain.
Documentation: Maintain accurate records of purchases, inventory, and transactions for audit and reporting purposes.
Qualifications
Education: A degree in Gemology, Business, or a related field is preferred.
Experience: Minimum of 5-7 years of experience in diamond buying or a related field and at least 3 years of experience in lab grown diamonds
Certification: Certification from a recognized gemological institute, such as the Gemological Institute of America (GIA), is highly desirable.
