We are looking for a commercially sharp Buyer to lead sourcing of fabrics and trims for a fast-paced, made-to-order fashion business. This role is critical in ensuring the right materials are sourced at the right cost, quality, and speed, enabling scalable and efficient production.
Key ResponsibilitiesFabric Sourcing & Development
- Source fabrics across woven and knit categories aligned to design and cost requirements
- Identify and develop suppliers for:
- Base fabrics (core library)
- Trend-driven fabrics (prints, textures, finishes)
- Work closely with design and production teams to ensure correct fabric selection (look, feel, fall, durability)
Trims & Components Buying
- Source trims including zippers, buttons, elastics, laces, and interlinings
- Drive standardization of trims across categories to reduce complexity and improve speed
- Ensure availability of trims aligned with production timelines
Vendor Management
- Build and manage a strong network of fabric mills and trim suppliers
- Negotiate pricing, MOQs, and lead times to meet business targets
- Establish backup vendors for critical materials
- Maintain strong vendor relationships to ensure priority and reliability
Costing & Margin Optimization
- Own raw material cost benchmarks across categories
- Continuously identify cost-saving opportunities without compromising quality
- Work backwards from target price points to define material choices
Supply Planning & Speed
- Ensure timely availability of materials for sampling and production
- Reduce lead times through vendor coordination and material planning
- Support fast turnaround cycles required for a trend-led business
Quality Control
- Evaluate and approve fabrics and trims based on:
- GSM consistency
- Color fastness
- Shrinkage and durability
- Work with vendors to resolve quality issues and maintain standards
Inventory Strategy
- Define and manage strategy for:
- Stocked core materials
- On-demand sourcing for trend-based designs
- Balance inventory risk with speed-to-market requirements
Ideal Candidate Profile
- 4–10 years of experience in fabric/trims sourcing, buying, or production merchandising
- Strong understanding of fabric types, trims, and garment construction
- Established vendor network within Indian textile ecosystem preferred
- Experience in fast fashion, export houses, or D2C brands is a plus
- Strong negotiation, analytical, and problem-solving skills
- Ability to work in a fast-paced, high-ownership environment
