RESPONSIBLE TO: Assistant Director of Nursing

PRIMARY JOB FUNCTION: Shampoo, set, cut, perm and apply permanent/nonpermanent hair color to both

male/female resident hair. Trim facial hair, eyebrows, or ear hair for residents and any other task in accordance

with the Cosmetology Rules and Regulations/Statutes.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Must be a licensed cosmetologist and possess current licensure in North Dakota.
Completed or be willing to complete an approved nurse assistant course/class and successfully pass the test for certification as a nurse assistant in North Dakota.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

Must comply with Cosmetology Rules and Regulations and Statutes governing Cosmetology in North Dakota.
Must be able to stand/walk intermittently for 75% of the time during an 8 hour shift. Will also be expected to be able to lift up to 50 pounds intermittently to assist with the transfer of residents to the hair care chair from the wheelchair on a PRN basis with help of another certified nurse assistant up to 25% of the time during an 8 hour shift.
Must have ability to read, write, verbalize and understand English well enough to receive oral and/or written instructions, communicate successfully with residents and co-workers and complete documentation.
Must have visual activity sufficient for reading assignments and written instructions, policies and procedures pertinent to the personal care and hair care of the resident.
Hearing acuity must be sufficient to allow effective communication with residents and co-workers.
Must demonstrate a patient and caring manner when working with residents and coworkers, willing to accept and learn from constructive criticism and refraining from being disruptive to the work environment.
Must be flexible and be able to adapt to changes in procedures and willing to accept changes in hours and assignments as the need arises, demonstrating a willingness to help each other in the work environment.
Must be respectful of supervision and be able to accept constructive criticism.
Must be able to organize the workload to completion in accordance with established policies and procedures.
Responsible to provide a safe environment for residents and co-workers by following all established safety and infection control policies and procedures including;
Awareness of chemical products used and material safety data sheets (MSDS)
Proper use of universal precautions and infection control policies including good hand washing techniques and use of personal protective equipment (PPE) ie. goggles, masks, gloves, and gowns.
Proper cleaning/disinfecting of Hair Salon and equipment after each use as established by the Cosmetology Standards for Cleaning.
Awareness of Voluntary Protection Program (VPP) and Risk Management/Safety Program and will adhere to established policies and procedures within the nursing department and facility wide with regards to job performance and safe operating procedures
Will use proper body mechanics, hoyer lifts, gait belts and secure assistance of a co-worker as required by policy and established by the resident plan of care
Must respect and uphold resident rights in all regards including confidentiality of resident information and refrain from any action that would be considered abusive physically, emotionally or verbally.
Must be punctual and dependable with attendance as scheduled.
Will be responsible for the hair care of the residents including shampooing, setting, cutting, curling and permanent or temporary color rinses.
Will assist with transporting residents to and from the Hair Salon as needed
-requiring physical act of pushing/pulling wheelchairs, (approx. 20 pounds).
Will maintain the Hair Salon in a clean and orderly condition following established safety and infection control policies.
Will do routine cleaning and disinfecting of utensils and equipment according to established and proper infection control procedures to meet licensure requirements.
Responsible to report pertinent resident information to the charge nurse.
Will provide privacy as appropriate or requested for the resident as hair care is done.
Will attend a minimum of 12 hours of in-service/continuing education programs per year and demonstrate interest in learning to meet requirements of certification as a nurse assistant.
Demonstrates Missouri Slopes customer service standards of excellence.
Must be able and willing to care for all residents regardless of gender, religion, color or creed.

OTHER JOB FUNCTIONS

Assist feeding residents as assigned.
Participate in Quality Improvement Studies and Safety Committee efforts as assigned.
