Costume Coordinator (nine months part-time) Jobs in Richmond at The Steward School
The Steward School is looking for a well-organized theater enthusiast to work with our Performing Arts Department. The successful candidate will have a strong desire to work with children; demonstrated communication, collaboration, organizational, and interpersonal skills; and experience with theater and design. This part-time, non-benefited position begins August 2026 and reports to the Fine Arts Curriculum Chair.
Responsibilities:
- Maintain the inventory of the costume closet and the resources list for renting, purchasing, and borrowing costumes.
- In conjunction with the Performing Arts Department, develop, communicate, supply, and manage costume needs for six Lower School Grade Level productions (three performances each production) in the Black Box with Lower School students (approximately one production every five weeks, encompassing 30-45 Lower School students per production).
- In conjunction with the Performing Arts Department, develop, communicate, supply, and manage costume needs for three full productions (three performances per production) per year on the Robins Stage, which includes as many as 40-50 students across the Middle and Upper School (occasional Lower School student involvement).
Qualifications and Experience:
- Experience costuming shows.
- Enthusiasm for and commitment to working with children.
- Ability to sew and/or create costumes and costume pieces.
- Ability to communicate effectively and professionally with faculty, students, parents, volunteers, and the public.
- Demonstrated ability to prioritize, multitask, and manage several projects simultaneously with attention to detail.
- Ability to appropriately handle confidential matters and information.
Physical Requirements:
- Kneel, bend, stoop, and climb a ladder.
- Lift up to 25 pounds.
