Overview

Creative Lead Of Product Design Jobs in New York at Culturefly

We make high quality merch that fans lose their minds over — licensed goods, original product, apparel, hard goods, impulse items, the works. Everything we make is sold through our own ecommerce stores, direct to the fans who actually want it.

Quality isn’t a checkbox for us — it’s the whole point. We’re not racing to the bottom on cost. We want product that feels as good as it looks, and we need a Creative Lead who cares about that as much as we do.

That means owning both the product design and the line plan — someone who knows exactly what it takes to go from a great idea to a great SKU, built to a standard worth showing off in a DTC storefront.

WHAT YOU’LL OWN

Line plan: You’ll build and own the merch calendar — mapping drops, launches, capsules, and restocks across the year so there’s always something worth buying and nothing piling up unsold. You’ll set the seasonal assortment, work with planning on buy sizing, and make the hard calls on what gets made and what gets cut. The calendar is yours to build and yours to defend.

Product design: Brief through approved sample, across apparel, accessories, hard goods, and impulse. Tech packs, proto reviews, fit sessions, factory notes — you can do this hands-on or direct others. You know what production-ready means and you hold the line on quality, because everything we make goes straight to customers who ordered it expecting something great.

Brand communication: You’re comfortable representing product creative directly with licensors and IP partners — presenting concepts, managing approvals, keeping the relationship and the timeline moving.

DAY TO DAY, YOU’RE

  • Building and owning the merch calendar — drops, launches, capsules, and restocks mapped across the full year
  • Writing or directing product briefs from trend research through SMS sign-off
  • Designing product — graphics, colorways, layouts — across soft lines, hard goods, and impulse
  • Getting hands-on with tech packs and protos — marking up, correcting, approving
  • Running fit and quality reviews and giving vendors direct, clear feedback
  • Partnering with planning on buy depth, SKU rationalization, and inventory tradeoffs
  • Watching sell-through closely and using it to make the next plan better
  • Juggling the sample cycle across multiple factories without dropping anything
  • Keeping the material library, color standards, and graphic system tight and current

WHAT’S IN THE ASSORTMENT

We play across a wide range — you should be excited by all of it, not just the categories you already know.

  • Soft lines — apparel, fleece, tees, headwear, socks
  • Hard goods — drinkware, bags, tech accessories, home goods, novelties
  • Impulse — keychains, enamel pins, acrylic standees, stickers, small collectibles
  • Packaging — retail pack-outs, hangtags, inserts
  • Capsules and limited drops alongside a solid evergreen core

WHO WE’RE LOOKING FOR

Someone who knows this space well and is ready to own it. You’ve shipped real product, you understand what makes a line work commercially, and you care about quality as much as we do.

  • 7+ years in product design or development at a DTC, merch, or consumer goods brand — real volume, real launches
  • You’ve owned a line plan end to end, not just designed into one someone else built
  • Deep knowledge of garment construction, decoration methods (screen print, embroidery, dye-sub, DTG), and hard goods production
  • Comfortable across both soft lines and hard goods — ideally in the same role, not just across separate jobs
  • Vendor relationships you can activate quickly
  • A portfolio of work that actually shipped and sold

EVEN BETTER IF YOU

  • Have experience with licensed or IP product — you know what it takes to get creative through a brand approval process
  • Can illustrate — concept or execute character-driven graphics yourself, not just direct others
  • Have rebuilt a line plan from scratch at a scrappy sub-$100M brand
  • Have managed a small design or PD team
  • Have launched a collab or capsule drop start to finish
