Mission and objectives

Established by the Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC) of the United Nations (UN) in 1958 as one of the UN's five regional commissions, ECA's mandate is to promote the economic and social development of its member States, foster regional integration, and promote international cooperation for Africa's development. Made up of 54 member States and playing a dual role as a regional arm of the UN and as a key component of the African institutional landscape, ECA is well positioned to make unique contributions in addressing the Continent’s development challenges. The strategic objective of ECA is framed around delivering ideas and actions for an empowered, inclusive and transformed Africa in the framework of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and Agenda 2063 of the African Union through its three core functions, namely, its function as a think tank, its convening function and its operational function

Context

ECA Rwanda seeks graphic design and desktop publishing (DTP) support – type setting, and graphic design with Shutterstock images of the following four documents:

  • Central Corridor Inland Waterway Strategic Plan 2026–2031
  • Northern Corridor Inland Waterway Strategic Plan 2026–2031
  • Roadmap for Harmonization of Inland Waterways Transport Policy Frameworks (within the Multimodal Transport Corridors in Eastern Africa)
  • The Macroeconomic and Social Overview of Eastern Africa

Task description

Under the guidance of the Communication officer and Programme managers at ECA, the volunteer will:

  • Format the documents and align the figures, tables and annexes to the table of content
  • Standardize all tables
  • Insert some design elements and photos into the report to make it a smoother read
  • Develop needed infographics with the main elements of the report
  • Create cover pages
  • Finalize and provide a print-ready file

Assignment requirements

Required Experience

Required skills and experience:

  • Responsiveness to feedback
  • Ability to work in consultation with a team Required experience
  • Strong skills in infographic and presentation design
  • Proficiency in tools like Adobe Illustrator, InDesign, Photoshop, Canva, or equivalent
  • Ability to work independently and meet deadlines
  • English communication skills
  • Desirable Experience: o Familiarity with international development topics (e.g., circular economy, energy, skills development) o Experience working with UN agencies or development organization

English, Level: Fluent, Required
