Overview

Design Assistant Jobs in Los Angeles at perfectwhitetee

DESIGN & DESIGN ASSISTING

– Support the Creative Director across all phases of the design process, from initial concept development through seasonal handoff

– Prepare and maintain seasonal line sheets, colorway decks, and product assortment grids

– Create and update flat sketches and technical drawings in Adobe Illustrator; organize and manage design files with consistency and accuracy

– Build and maintain presentation decks and visual materials using Canva and Adobe Creative Suite for internal reviews, market appointments, and brand presentations

– Conduct trend, silhouette, color, and competitive research; synthesize findings into clear, digestible presentations for the design team

– Assist in building and maintaining seasonal mood boards and concept direction materials

– Collaborate closely with the Tech Designer, who owns all technical execution including specs, grading, construction, fit, and tech pack accuracy — this role provides clear creative direction and design intent to support that process

– Maintain organized digital design archives including seasonal files, reference imagery, and approved artwork

– Track design calendar milestones and assist in keeping the team on schedule across multiple seasonal timelines

FABRIC & MATERIALS

– Maintain and organize the fabric and trim library; log, label, and archive incoming swatches, lab dips, and strike-offs

– Demonstrate a strong working knowledge of fabric construction, fiber content, hand feel, weight, and performance characteristics across knit, woven, and jersey fabrications

– Evaluate fabric submissions against design intent and quality standards; communicate feedback to mills and agents with clarity and precision

– Coordinate fabric testing, shrinkage results, and certification requirements; track status and flag issues proactively

– Assist in seasonal fabric pulls and selection for design presentations and proto development, working in close collaboration with the Tech Designer

– Manage fabric and trim sample requests, ensuring materials are received, logged, and accessible to the team in a timely manner

– Track fabric minimums, lead times, and pricing using Excel; maintain organized fabric costing and availability records

SOURCING

– Support domestic and international fabric and trim sourcing, identifying new mills, agents, and suppliers aligned with brand aesthetic and quality standards

– Build and maintain sourcing contact lists and vendor databases in Excel, keeping information current and well-organized

– Request and track swatches, pricing, minimums, and lead times from domestic and international sources; compile and present options clearly to the Creative Director

– Source trims including labels, hangtags, hardware, elastics, ribbon, and embellishments; manage the full approval process from initial request through sign-off

– Assist in evaluating and qualifying new supplier relationships, both domestically and overseas

– Maintain trim and materials cost trackers in Excel, supporting the team’s awareness of budget and margin implications

– Understand that product development — which owns the timeline, cost management, vendor relationships, sourcing coordination, and bulk production process — is a separate function; this role supports sourcing at the materials and trims level in service of design, not production management

TOOLS & SKILLS REQUIRED

– Canva — proficient; used for presentations, line sheets, and marketing-facing design materials

– Microsoft Excel — proficient; used for sourcing trackers, fabric logs, costing sheets, and calendar management

– Adobe Photoshop — working knowledge for image editing and presentation prep
