Position Overview

The Director of Commercial Planning, Analytics & AI serves as the operating backbone of the company's commercial engine. This role unifies Merchandise Planning, Demand & Inventory Planning, Enterprise Analytics, and AI-enabled decision support into a single operating framework that connects product creation, production planning, and commercial performance across the organization.

The Director translates product strategy into financial outcomes by determining what products are built, how much is produced, how inventory is distributed across wholesale and digital channels, and how commercial performance is measured. This leader establishes the planning architecture and analytics infrastructure that drive revenue growth, inventory productivity, and margin expansion across TYR’s global business.

Scope of Ownership

Merchandise Planning

  • Seasonal SKU architecture and assortment planning
  • Channel assortment strategy across wholesale, DTC, and international markets
  • Pricing architecture and promotional guardrails
  • Assortment productivity and lifecycle analysis
  • Good / Better / Best assortment ladder management
  • Franchise versus fashion product mix evaluation

Demand & Inventory Planning

  • Enterprise demand forecasting across all sales channels
  • Production volume planning alignment with product and operations teams
  • Inventory deployment and allocation by channel and geography
  • Inventory productivity metrics including weeks of supply, inventory turns, and GMROI
  • Production and demand risk analysis

Enterprise Business Intelligence

  • Power BI enterprise reporting environment ownership
  • Commercial performance dashboards used across leadership
  • E‑commerce analytics including conversion, traffic, AOV, and customer behavior
  • Marketing attribution and performance reporting
  • Enterprise data governance and reporting standardization

Commercial Decision Support

  • Executive performance reporting and strategic analysis
  • Product lifecycle performance evaluation
  • Pricing and promotional strategy modeling
  • Channel profitability analysis
  • Cross‑channel commercial planning support

Core Responsibilities

Product Lifecycle Commercial Governance

  • Own the commercial planning framework across the full product lifecycle from concept through sell‑through
  • Build seasonal SKU architecture and lifecycle classification
  • Establish margin targets and pricing guardrails during concept stage
  • Ensure product creation aligns with revenue, margin, and inventory productivity goals
  • Evaluate franchise versus fashion product balance
  • Ensure each product introduced into the line has a clear commercial rationale

Strategic Merchandise & Assortment Planning

  • Lead development of seasonal assortment architecture
  • Guide channel‑specific assortment planning across wholesale and digital
  • Develop pricing strategies and promotional guardrails
  • Analyze competitor pricing and market positioning
  • Monitor assortment productivity and SKU performance

Demand, Production & Inventory Planning

  • Own enterprise demand forecasting process
  • Develop production volume planning recommendations
  • Align raw material purchasing with forecast demand
  • Partner with operations to align production capacity with commercial forecasts
  • Manage inventory deployment across channels

Commercial Financial Planning

  • Develop and manage Open‑to‑Buy (OTB) frameworks
  • Monitor GMROI and product margin performance
  • Manage inventory turn targets and weeks‑of‑supply
  • Model promotional and markdown strategies
  • Identify commercial financial risks across product lines

Digital Commerce & Marketplace Analytics

  • Lead ecommerce analytics and funnel performance analysis
  • Analyze customer acquisition cost and lifetime value
  • Evaluate customer purchase cohorts and lifecycle behavior
  • Monitor digital marketing attribution and campaign performance
  • Develop analytics frameworks for Amazon marketplace performance

Enterprise Business Intelligence & Data Governance

Ensure company operates from a single enterprise data environment across commercial reporting.

Data integration sources include:

  • Microsoft Dynamics (Business Central)
  • Power BI enterprise reporting environment
  • Product lifecycle management (PLM) systems
  • Shopify e‑commerce platform
  • Amazon marketplace reporting
  • Northbeam marketing attribution
  • Wholesale EDI sales feeds

AI‑Enabled Forecasting & Decision Support

  • AI‑assisted demand forecasting models
  • Predictive inventory planning tools
  • Pricing and promotional optimization models
  • Customer segmentation and lifecycle analysis
  • Automated reporting and decision support

Cross‑Functional Leadership

  • Serve as strategic partner to COO and executive leadership
  • Lead commercial planning cadence across organization
  • Present performance insights to executive team
  • Develop planning and analytics talent across the organization
  • Align product, sales, marketing, and operations around shared commercial objectives

Qualifications

Experience

  • 10+ years experience in merchandise planning, demand planning, or commercial analytics
  • 3+ years leadership experience
  • Experience across wholesale and DTC / ecommerce business models
  • Background in apparel, sporting goods, or consumer products preferred
  • Experience working in vertically integrated manufacturing environments preferred

Technical Skills

  • Expert‑level Microsoft Power BI capability
  • Advanced Excel and SQL
  • Experience working with Shopify and Amazon Seller Central
  • Experience working with Microsoft Dynamics (Business Central) or similar ERP platforms
  • Demonstrated experience applying AI or machine learning tools to commercial decision‑making

Preferred Skills

  • Python or R for analytics workflows
  • Machine learning forecasting models
  • Experience with modern data warehouse environments

Education

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business, Finance, Merchandising, Data Science, or related field required. MBA preferred.
