Position Summary:

The Director of Product Development and Production will oversee all aspects of apparel production, from initial development through final delivery, ensuring products are manufactured to the highest quality standards, on time, and within budget. This role will lead cross-functional teams, manage vendor relationships, and implement strategies to improve operational efficiency and product excellence.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead and manage the full production lifecycle for all apparel products, including development, sourcing, manufacturing, and delivery.
  • Establish and monitor production timelines to meet seasonal calendar deadlines and sales plan requirements.
  • Collaborate closely with design, merchandising, planning, and technical teams to align production goals with brand vision and financial targets.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with domestic and international vendors, factories, and suppliers.
  • Negotiate production costs, payment terms, lead times, and capacity planning with vendors.
  • Implement and maintain quality control procedures to ensure compliance with brand standards and customer expectations.
  • Identify and resolve production issues proactively, including delays, cost overruns, and quality problems.
  • Oversee raw material and trim sourcing strategies to ensure cost efficiency and sustainability.
  • Evaluate and select new vendors as needed, ensuring ethical labor practices and compliance with company standards.
  • Analyze production data and KPIs to drive continuous improvement in cost, quality, and lead time.
  • Lead, mentor, and develop a high-performing production team.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Apparel Production, Fashion Merchandising, Business, or related field; MBA or advanced degree a plus.
  • 8+ years of experience in apparel production, including 3+ years in a leadership or director-level role.
  • Strong knowledge of global apparel manufacturing processes, supply chain logistics, and compliance.
  • Proven ability to manage multiple product categories and production calendars simultaneously.
  • Experience working with both domestic and overseas vendors/factories.
  • Excellent negotiation, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
  • Highly organized with exceptional attention to detail.
  • Proficiency in production management software, Excel, and PLM systems.
  • Ability to travel domestically and internationally as required.

Preferred Skills:

  • Experience with sustainable sourcing and production practices.
  • Familiarity with ERP systems and data analytics tools.
  • Background in both wholesale and DTC business models.
