The primary job responsibilities for our Stylist would include:
- Greeting customers and creating a welcoming, comfortable, and inclusive shopping experience.
- Asking thoughtful questions to understand each customer’s style, needs, preferences, budget, and comfort level.
- Assisting customers with selecting clothing, accessories, and complete outfits that help them feel confident and express their personal style.
- Conducting one-on-one personal styling sessions and preparing curated selections based on each client’s goals.
- Creating complete looks that consider color, proportion, fit, layering, occasion, and personal expression.
- Encouraging customers to try new silhouettes, colors, brands, and styling ideas while respecting their individual boundaries and preferences.
- Helping customers identify versatile pieces and understand how items can work with clothing they already own.
- Building strong customer relationships and providing personalized recommendations that encourage repeat visits and future styling appointments.
- Maintaining a strong understanding of current inventory, including where specific products, categories, brands, sizes, and aesthetics are located throughout the store.
- Working with the merchandising and sales teams to identify products that align with customer requests, seasonal needs, and current style trends.
- Keeping fitting rooms, styling areas, and customer selections organized throughout each appointment or interaction.
- Following up on customer needs and helping guide mini-styling clients toward full one-on-one styling sessions when appropriate.
- Supporting styling-related content, photoshoots, mannequin looks, events, and other creative projects as needed.
In addition to these responsibilities, the role will include basic day-to-day store duties such as greeting and assisting customers, answering the phone, supporting the register when needed, running inventory to the floor, returning unwanted items to the appropriate areas, and cleaning or organizing the store as necessary.
The ideal candidate should have the following characteristics and skills:
- A strong understanding of fashion, styling, color, proportion, fit, and visual presentation.
- An outgoing, personable, and approachable presence.
- Confidence speaking with new people and starting professional conversations with customers.
- Strong listening skills and the ability to understand what a customer is looking for, even when they are unsure how to describe it.
- A creative eye for combining garments, accessories, colors, textures, and silhouettes.
- The ability to style a wide range of body types, gender expressions, ages, aesthetics, and personal preferences.
- The ability to make recommendations without being pushy or making customers feel pressured.
- Confidence handling rejection and continuing to offer thoughtful alternatives when an item or outfit does not work.
- Strong verbal, communication, and relationship-building skills.
- The ability to balance creativity with sales goals and help turn styling interactions into purchases.
- Comfort working in a fast-paced retail environment and shifting between styling, sales, customer service, and general store responsibilities.
- A collaborative attitude and willingness to receive feedback.
- A dependable, proactive, and hands-on approach to supporting customers and maintaining the sales floor.
