Role Overview:
The Head of Buying will be responsible for leading and overseeing the entire buying function across the business, ensuring that the right products are sourced at the right time, in the right quantities, and at the right price to meet customer demands and company goals. This role requires a visionary leader who can balance creative vision with strong commercial acumen and team management skills. You will work closely with senior leadership and cross-functional teams to drive business performance, profitability, and innovation.
Key Responsibilities:
– Leadership & Strategy: Lead and develop the buying team, creating and executing buying strategies that align with the company’s overall vision and goals. Ensure the team is motivated, focused, and delivering on key business objectives.
– Product Assortment: Oversee the creation of an exceptional product assortment across all categories that meets the needs and desires of our target customer, while also driving profitable sales.
– Vendor Management: Develop and nurture relationships with suppliers, manufacturers, and vendors, ensuring competitive pricing, high-quality products, and favorable terms. Negotiate contracts and supplier agreements.
– Trend Forecasting & Market Research: Analyze market trends, consumer behaviour, and competitor activities to inform buying decisions and keep the brand at the forefront of fashion trends.
– Budget Management: Develop and manage buying budgets, ensuring that product costs and margins align with business objectives. Monitor and adjust purchasing plans based on sales performance.
– Cross-Functional Collaboration: Work closely with the merchandising, marketing, design, and supply chain teams to ensure the seamless execution of product launches, marketing campaigns, and stock management.
– Sales Analysis & Reporting: Regularly analyze sales data and market feedback to adjust buying strategies, optimize stock levels, and improve profitability.
– Sustainability & Innovation: Champion sustainable buying practices and stay on top of ethical sourcing initiatives to align with the company’s sustainability goals.
Requirements:
– Minimum of 8 years of experience in fashion buying, with at least 3 years in a leadership role, preferably in a senior or head of buying capacity.
– Strong understanding of retail and wholesale buying, inventory management, and omnichannel strategies.
– Proven ability to lead, motivate, and manage a team effectively in a fast-paced environment.
– Exceptional negotiation skills with the ability to build lasting relationships with key stakeholders.
– Deep knowledge of fashion trends, consumer behavior, and global markets.
– Strong financial acumen and experience managing large buying budgets.
– Excellent communication, leadership, and interpersonal skills.
– Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and buying/ERP systems (Entersoft will be a plus).
– A passion for fashion with a keen eye for detail and an understanding of the customer journey.
Preferred Qualifications:
– A degree in Fashion, Business Administration, or a related field.
– Experience working with global suppliers and managing international buying processes.
– Knowledge of fashion trends and responsible sourcing is a plus.
