Fashion Designer/Merchandiser – HANDBAGS
Contemporary handbag manufacturer looking for a designer to create and execute original, trend-appropriate designs that cater to buyer needs and drive sales. Emperia, Inc. is a handbag manufacturer and distributor based in downtown Los Angeles. We work with major brands and retailers. Ability to successfully manage the product development calendar is must! Relaxed, casual environment with lots of potential for growth!
Job Duties:
- Research and identify trend direction
- Create development plan and calendar
- Design according to sales needs and emerging trends, ensure timely execution of product development calendar
- Develop and implement plan to transform initial rough product designs into computer aided design (CAD) using composites in Photoshop
- Create tech packs and spec sheets for each design
- Prepare and submit each design for approval by design manager and other business stakeholders
- Communicate with overseas factory to coordinate samples and their delivery schedules
- Select and review materials, trims, and hardware
- Ensure maintenance of fabric and trim library
- Coordinating with the Design Manager to lessen resource conflicts
- Conducting research on design requirements, materials, and products for development requirements
- Performing quality control reviews to ensure that the production sample is made according to the design and company standards
- Preparing and submitting for approval daily and weekly progress reports on all assigned projects to Design Manager through one-on-one meetings
- Performing other duties as assigned
Skills and Requirements:
- Associates Degree or higher in construction or business-related field preferred
- One or more years of experience as a Product Designer required
- Three years’ experience in CAD work preferred; college courses in design and merchandising curriculum may be substituted, year for year, up to a maximum of three years
- Proficiency in Photoshop, CAD software MS Outlook, MS Word, MS Excel, and MS Windows
- Demonstrated knowledge of construction of handbags a plus
- Ability to research and solve design and production problems
- Excellent knowledge of the industry and trends impacting the business
- Excellent customer service orientation and excellent interpersonal skills
- Excellent oral and written communication skills
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $60,000.00 – $80,000.00 per year
