Tharanco Group is seeking a Freelance Assistant Designer to work directly with our Dunning Collection. This position will be based out of our New York office.
Tharanco Group designs, sources, and sells Men’s (Golf Apparel, Dress Shirts, Active/Outdoor Apparel) and Women’s (Dresses, Sweater & Knit Tops) apparel to major retailers and boutiques/pro-shops in the US and through its own Direct to Consumer channels (Ecommerce & Retail Stores). Tharanco Group Inc. has been in the Apparel Business since 1988 and has several operating divisions with offices in NYC, Secaucus NJ, and Canton MA, and 19 Retail Stores .

The Assistant Designer will work on specific aspects of the product lifecycle from concept to final development with direction from the Designer and the Creative Director.
Responsibilities:
- Adobe Illustrator flat sketch golf apparel/sportswear/activewear collection (cut+sew knits, wovens, outerwear, sweaters focused on polos).
- Tech Packs – create and ensure all tech packs are complete with design components, fabric, trim, construction and details; Input Design Detail sketches, material information into Gerber Yunique PLM system.
- Source and manage fabric selection for each season, under direction of the Designer and Director, while partnering with overseas mills, factories, and offices.
- Develop strong working relationships with cross-divisional partners.
- Responsible for lab-dip review, communication & organization.
- Manage deadlines in accordance with the T&A calendar.
- Keep clear records of all design development: color, prints, trims, reference tears, etc.
- Prepare for all presentations: assemble presentation boards, organize proto reviews, attend meetings and follow up on creative direction. Attend and participate in all fittings when required.
- Engaged in market research- Shop stores and identify new styles. Provide analysis of the brand’s competitors in both golf and golf lifestyle.
- Maintain design area and ensure organization of all proto samples per season.
- Work collaboratively in a team environment.
Required Skills/Knowledge
- Able to work in a design driven, fast paced, and creative environment.
- Ability to apply constructive feedback to improve the design process.
- Knowledge of the apparel product development process.
- Ability to design innovative product under direction of the Design team, with keen trend and competitor awareness.
- Proficiency in: Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop, Gerber Yunique PLM, Windows (Outlook / Word / Excel).
- Excellent presentation and communication skills.
- Ability to multitask and shift priorities.
- Sense of urgency and accountability, driven by a strong work ethic.
- Ability to meet deadlines.
Experience and Educational Background Needed:
- 3-5 years of experience working in a design or product development team.
- BA Fashion Design.
Pay: $40.00 – $50.00 per hour
