Freelance Assistant Sweater Designer Job Description
We are a Junior & Missy “Fast Fashion” wholesale manufacturer specializing in both branded and private label sportswear. Looking to add an associate designer to our already successful sweater team.
Requirements
- Minimum of an associate’s degree in Fashion or BA in related science
- Minimum of 2 years of professional experience in sweater category
- Strong portfolio demonstrating a wide range of sweater designs and creativity. Junior experience preferred.
- Knowledge of Gauge, Stitches and Garment Construction
- Knowledge of Illustrator, excel, CADS and Photoshop is a must
- Proficient in Microsoft Office programs, especially Excel.
- In-depth knowledge of yarns, stitches, and knitting techniques
- Able to sketch in Illustrator, creating flats, construction call-outs, filling flats in colors, stripes, jacquards and stitches for CADs buyer presentations.
- Excellent communication, collaboration, and organizational skills
- Ability to work under tight deadlines and manage multiple projects simultaneously
- Strong attention to detail and a commitment to quality
- Ability to lead and mentor an intern/assistant.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Responsibilities
- Assist in product development at all stages under guidance of Sr. Designer: sketching, detail sketches, pulling yarns and stitches, tech-packing (proto stage), trend presentation research, presentation boards and shopping stores.
- Seasonal yarn, silhouette, color and knitdown development
- Coordinate samples: check in proto samples; arrange samples & rolling racks
- Assist in generating & update development line sheets & color cards
- Understand the customers by doing market research and shop the retail stores.
- Able to spec and assemble tech packs for sweaters, using reference samples or photo inspirations.
- Good yarn knowledge and familiar with the whole sweater development process
- Knowledge of Gauge, Stitches and Garment Construction
- Send out and follow up on packages for overseas vendors
- Dailly communication with overseas factories/ vendors on new developments.
- Work with design, sales and production to effectively communicate departmental needs and design requests.
- Participate in group meetings & trend shopping
