Global Markets Research Intern

Internship Period: 3 August 2026 – 31 December 2026

Job Description

This role will give the candidate an opportunity to experience MUFG Global Markets Research for the Asia region. The candidate will gain an understanding of the fundamental and macro drivers underpinning FX and rates markets, with a specific focus on Asia and global macro. In addition, the candidate will develop an appreciation for how the research function adds value to MUFG’s client relationships through our thought leadership and insights and help the team communicate and amplify those findings through a variety of channels.

The candidate will be involved in a range of tasks to help the GMR Asia team accomplish our goals:

  • Create and analyse regional and country databases on the key drivers of Asia’s economies and FX and rates markets, with the ultimate aim to forecast macro and markets
  • Help the team develop models and frameworks on Asia’s macro and markets and test those hypotheses in a logical fashion. A clear thought process and reasoning is most crucial and with that basic arithmetic and statistics, but a good understanding of econometrics and regression analysis will also be very helpful, as is the ability to understand code including through the help of GenAI
  • Help the team with day-to-day activities including uploading and formatting of research reports to our research portal, together with maintaining and updating our existing databases to ensure they are fit for purpose on a daily basis.
  • Update and create slide packs and help with the logistics ahead of client meeting
  • Assist in other tasks such as responding to ad-hoc requests
  • Automate research processes – help the GMR team automate our existing work processes and databases, so as to increase the team’s efficiency and productivity. This can be done through a variety of ways, including through the help of GenAI, macros, spreadsheets, and code.
  • Work with the GMR team on longer-term thematic research reports. Synthesise findings from academic research and think tanks, stay on top of these topics and the key policy debates including at the cutting edge, with the view to develop a comprehensive understanding of the research topic at hand.

Job Requirements

  • Undergraduates from Business/Finance/Economics are preferred but will consider any current university students for the role
  • A strong interest in Global and Asia macro and markets, and with a desire to understand markets from a research / economist’s / strategist’s perspective
  • Clear thought process and logical reasoning is most crucial
  • Good with numbers, arithmetic, and statistics, while a good understanding of econometrics and regression analysis will also be very helpful
  • A “can do” attitude
  • Ability to learn on the job and pick up concepts quickly
  • Possess an entrepreneurial spirit and is pro-active
  • Proficient in Microsoft Excel, Word, PowerPoint
  • An understanding of and experience in coding
  • Experience in using GenAI and willingness to utilise GenAI to augment existing processes, improve productivity and improve insights
  • Organisational skills
