Position Summary
Vegas Gold Buyers is seeking a trustworthy, analytical, and customer-focused Gold Buyer to evaluate and purchase gold, silver, platinum, jewelry, coins, bullion, watches, and other approved valuables from the public.
The Gold Buyer is responsible for accurately testing merchandise, determining its value, presenting competitive purchase offers, negotiating respectfully, completing all required documentation, and protecting the company from financial loss, fraud, theft, and compliance violations.
This position combines technical product knowledge with consultative sales skills. The successful Gold Buyer helps customers feel comfortable and informed while achieving company goals for purchasing volume, gross profit, inventory quality, customer satisfaction, and repeat business.
The Gold Buyer may also identify jewelry and other assets with resale potential, create accurate inventory records, assist with merchandising, and support the movement of merchandise between Vegas Gold Buyers and The Purple Chandelier.

Key Objectives
- Evaluate precious metals, jewelry, coins, bullion, watches, and other approved property accurately.
- Purchase merchandise at prices that are fair to the customer and profitable for the company.
- Meet established purchasing volume, revenue, gross-profit, and conversion goals.
- Build customer trust through transparency, professionalism, empathy, and product knowledge.
- Clearly explain the evaluation and offer process without pressuring the customer.
- Identify merchandise that should be resold rather than processed for its metal value.
- Protect the company from counterfeit merchandise, fraud, theft, valuation errors, and avoidable losses.
- Follow all identification, documentation, holding-period, reporting, cash-handling, security, and regulatory requirements.
- Maintain accurate buy sheets, customer records, inventory records, photographs, weights, test results, and transaction documentation.
- Follow approved testing, pricing, negotiation, approval, and escalation procedures.
- Monitor precious-metal markets and apply current company pricing standards.
- Develop repeat and referral business through excellent service and consistent follow-up.
- Maintain a secure, clean, organized, and professional buying environment.

- Understands karat markings, hallmarks, plating, filled metals, and common imitations.
- Safely performs approved acid, electronic, magnetic, density, scale, loupe, and other testing methods.
- Distinguishes scrap-value merchandise from items with retail, collectible, designer, or estate value.
- Recognizes common indicators of counterfeit coins, bullion, watches, and jewelry.
- Understands gemstones well enough to avoid damaging them and to escalate items requiring specialist evaluation.
Mathematical and Analytical Ability
- Performs accurate calculations involving weight, purity, spot price, refining factors, margins, and customer offers.
- Uses established pricing tools, spreadsheets, reports, and company systems.
- Reviews transactions carefully and identifies discrepancies before purchases are completed.
Customer Service and Communication
- Creates a welcoming, respectful, and private customer experience.
- Explains the evaluation process and purchase offer clearly.
- Negotiates confidently without using pressure, misleading statements, or disrespectful tactics.
- Demonstrates empathy when customers have an emotional attachment to their belongings.
- Responds professionally when an offer is declined.
- Builds trust that encourages repeat visits, reviews, and referrals.
Sales and Business Development
- Converts qualified evaluations into profitable purchases.
- Strong follow-up and customer contact skills.
- Identifies opportunities for referrals, appointments, estate purchases, and community partnerships.
- Supports approved marketing and customer-retention initiatives.
- Understands that buying performance must balance volume, margin, inventory quality, and customer satisfaction.
Organization and Compliance
- Completes documentation accurately and on time.
- Maintains secure control of purchased merchandise.
- Follows all cash-handling, inventory, safety, privacy, security, and reporting procedures.
- Maintains an orderly workstation and properly stores tools, chemicals, valuables, and records.
- Protects confidential company pricing methods and customer information.
Teamwork and Accountability
- Communicates effectively with management, accounting, inventory, sales, and jewelry personnel.
- Accepts coaching and applies feedback.
- Meets deadlines and follows through on assigned responsibilities.

Education & Experience Required
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Strong mathematical ability and attention to detail.
- Demonstrated experience in customer service, negotiation, sales, jewelry, precious metals, coins, pawn, luxury resale, or a related field.
- Ability to learn and consistently apply technical testing and valuation procedures.
- Basic proficiency with computers, point-of-sale systems, spreadsheets, email, and digital recordkeeping.
- Ability to pass all company-required background, reference, and eligibility checks.
- Ability to work with cash and high-value merchandise in a secure environment.
Preferred
- Two or more years of experience buying gold, jewelry, coins, bullion, watches, or other valuables.
- Formal education or certification in jewelry, gemology, precious metals, numismatics, watches, or luxury goods.
- Experience interpreting precious-metal spot prices and calculating melt value.
- Experience identifying designer, antique, vintage, estate, or collectible jewelry.
- Experience with inventory-management, customer relationship management, and transaction-reporting systems.
- Bilingual English/Spanish communication skills.
- Previous Pawn Experience encouraged to apply

Base
Starting base compensation: $18 per hour / $37,440 annually plus incentive plus commission
Final compensation is determined by the employee’s experience, demonstrated technical ability, assigned responsibilities, and position level.
Commission
Gold Buyers may earn commission based on approved commission metrics, which may include:
- Gross profit generated from completed purchases.
- Achievement of minimum margin requirements.
- Purchase volume.
- Customer conversion rate.
- Quality and resale value of acquired inventory.
- Accuracy of testing, valuation, and documentation.
- Compliance with approved buying limits and procedures.
- Transaction reversals, losses, or adjustments.
Commission is calculated and paid according to the current written Gold Buyer Commission Plan. Transactions involving documentation errors, unauthorized pricing, policy violations, excessive losses, returns, fraud, or unresolved inventory discrepancies may be excluded or adjusted as permitted by the plan.
Incentive
Eligible employees may earn incentive compensation of up to 20% of base salary based on individual goals, company needs, position-specific performance factors, and approved Personal Professional and Financial Goals. (PPFs).
