About the Role
The role will serve as the on-the-ground lead driving the analysis and providing assessment of relevant public policy issues and their implications to SHEIN’s business interests in the Middle East, focusing on the United Arab Emirates (UAE). The successful candidate will take the lead in formulating policy positions and advocacy strategies to address identified issues, as well as lead the development and execution of stakeholder engagement strategies in the UAE. The candidate is also responsible for fostering strategic partnerships with key stakeholders across politics, government, civil society, academia, industry associations, and other public arenas. Through such policy engagements, stakeholder relationship-building, and corporate profiling, the successful candidate will translate public affairs strategies into tangible commercial outcomes that advance SHEIN’s market access and expansion efforts in the UAE.
In this role, the candidate must be able to work effectively with various SHEIN teams globally, such as the government and public relations teams across our key global markets, business departments, and functional experts across our Sustainability, Finance, Legal, Marketing, Supply Chain teams to represent and advocate the company’s positions on a multitude of policy issues. The successful candidate should also possess a deep interest and ability to understand how politics, business, finance, sustainability, technology and innovation, as well as international relations are interconnected. These are pertinent issues that have an impact on our projects and initiatives.
Job Responsibilities
- Anticipate, track, and assess strategic/policy issues and their implications to SHEIN’s commercial interests in the UAE.
- Develop and provide timely reports to SHEIN’s senior management and relevant business units on relevant political, policy, and regulatory issues, with recommendations on risk mitigation approaches.
- Identify, engage, build relations, and establish partnerships with key stakeholders (including political office holders, government officials, regulators, non-governmental organisations, academic institutions, think-tanks, media, and industry associations) to secure SHEIN’s market access and expansion efforts in the UAE.
- Formulate and execute advocacy plans to translate policy engagements into tangible commercial outcomes that secure SHEIN’s market access and expansion efforts.
- Work closely with PR colleagues to develop and drive strategic communications plans and partnerships, in support of the company’s overall policy positioning and profiling.
- Leverage stakeholder networks to support local and regional business teams in resolving issues pertaining to business operations.
- Organise and manage meetings with external parties, including the preparation of briefing notes/presentations for senior management’s reference.
- Lead in the planning, organisation and management of events and/or networking platforms.
Required Qualifications and Experience
- Degree in International Relations, Political Science, Global Studies, Law, Economics, Communications, Media, Journalism, or related fields.
- At least 12 years of working experience in corporate/public affairs, and/or government relations/public policy, and/or corporate communications/public relations.
- Experience in policy research, development, and analysis, and/or track record in developing and implementing external communication strategies/campaigns
- Strong policy/regulatory network in the UAE.
- Track record of effectively solving complex issues and delivering strong results while maintaining the highest standards. This includes prior experience of translating policy/regulatory engagements and advocacy into tangible commercial outcomes.
- Strong analytical, presentation (written and oral) and project management skills.
- Strong proficiency in Arabic & English.
- Excellent interpersonal skills.
- Ability to multi-task and have exceptional attention to detail while operating in a fast-paced and dynamic environment.
- Ability to work independently and take ownership of driving positive outcomes at the local and regional level, while nevertheless preserving close alignment with the company’s global strategies and priorities.
