About this Job
This Vacancy is located in the Rehabilitation Department of Eastern Louisiana Mental Hospital System in Jackson, LA (East Feliciana Parish). ELMHS is the largest 24-hour, multi-site, state psychiatric complex, comprised of residential, outpatient and inpatient services. This posting will be used to fill a part-time, WAE position (up to 29 hours per week).
Minimum Qualifications
Possession of a license issued by the Louisiana Board of Barber Examiners; OR
Possession of a cosmetology license issued by the Louisiana State Board of Cosmetology.

Job Duties and Other Information
Job Duties:
60% Works with supervisor to provide individualized grooming needs for client population to include haircuts and trims, hair and scalp treatments, other beauty treatments and shaves. Also instructs patients in personal hygiene.
20% Meets Board and Health Standards and Safety. Maintain clean and safe shop area. Sterilize and sanitize all equipment after being used. Counts, bags, and sends soiled towels to be laundered. Counts and stores clean towels in a secured cabinet. Keep scissors and hazardous materials in a secured cabinet.
15% Works with supervisor to devise a schedule for clients to attend Barber Shop. Maintains daily log and confers with supervisor about services rendered. Instructs clients in elementary beauty care and good grooming. Reports to supervisor and Nursing Services any scalp disorders found. Inventories supplies and orders as needed. Completes and submits monthly report to supervisor. Attends monthly Department meetings. Attends in-service trainings and mandatory trainings as required by facility/agency. Attends safety meetings. Participates in fire drills.
5% Participate in education trainings that are mandatory for accreditation and licensure of the facility.
Perform all other duties assigned by supervisor/designee to maintain continuity and quality, accreditation and licensure requirements. Perform all other duties assigned by supervisor, but not listed, for the smooth operation of the unit/building and/or the facility.
Maintains current and unencumbered motor vehicle license.
Adheres to all rules, regulations, policies and procedures of LDH, OBH, Eastern Louisiana Mental Health System, and Civil Service.
Position-Specific Details:
This position will be filled as a barber.
This posting may be used to fill vacancies in other divisions or units at Eastern Louisiana Mental Health System within 90 days of closing.
This position may be filled as either a Probational or Job Appointment (open to all qualified applicants); a promotion (open to all statewide classified and Agency wide permanent status employees); or by Detail to Special Duty. Current permanent status, classified employees may be required to accept a Probational appointed if selected. If filled as a Job Appointment, there is a possibility that this position may be converted to a Probational Appointment should funding become available.
