Overview
Join the exciting team of the Bradford African Festival of Arts (BAFA) as a Hairdresser & Barber. Bring your creativity, passion and grooming experience to bring culture, style and confidence to life. In this role you will provide professional hairdressing and barbering services for artists, models, guests, staff and members of the general public throughout festival activities and associated events. Your talent will be essential to BAFA’s success whether you are making stylish cuts, traditional African hairstyles, braiding, grooming performers for stage shows or helping clients look their best.

Key Duties
- Provide a range of hairdressing services including cut, style, colour, braid, locs, extensions and special event looks.
- Professional barbering services including fades, line‑ups, beard shaping, grooming and classic cuts.
- Create current and cultural hairstyles for shows, fashion, photo‑shoots and live events.
- Prepare artists, performers, presenters and VIP guests for stage appearances.
- Maintain excellent hygiene, sanitation and health & safety for all tools and workplaces.
- Handle appointments and schedules efficiently during hectic festival periods.
- Provide great customer service by understanding the demands of clients and doing quality work.
- Suggest proper haircare products and style options if appropriate.
- Provide quick‑change styling support backstage where needed during performances.
- Mentor younger stylists or volunteers assisting with the beauty and grooming sector.
- Assist with BAFA set‑up and smooth operation of the beauty/grooming area.
Education & Skills
- Previous Hairdresser, Barber or Stylist experience.
- Preferred: relevant qualification or professional barbering/hairdressing certification.
- Solid experience in Afro hair care, braiding, natural hair styling and working with multicultural hair types.
- Fades, beard grooming and men’s haircutting experience.
- Ability to work under pressure in a fast‑paced event atmosphere.
- Excellent people and communication skills.
- Professional, trustworthy and prompt attitude.
- Creative, talented and passionate about beauty, fashion and presentation.
- Ability to operate individually and in a team.
Preferred Skills
- Experience in festivals, concerts, weddings or events.
- English spoken and any other African languages as an added plus.
