Position Overview
Berco Jewelry in Downtown Chicago is seeking a skilled and detail oriented Custom Jewelry CAD Designer to join our team. This role is responsible for transforming customer concepts, sketches, and design ideas into high quality, production ready CAD models while helping develop unique jewelry collections. The ideal candidate has strong technical CAD skills, a passion for making jewelry, and the ability to balance creativity with manufacturability.
This position is available as either full-time or part-time (minimum 3 days per week).
Key Responsibilities
- Collaborate with customers, sales teams, and project managers to translate concepts, inspiration images, sketches, and design briefs into detailed CAD models.
- Create production ready 3D CAD designs for custom engagement rings, wedding bands, pendants, earrings, bracelets, and necklaces.
- Develop detailed renderings and visual presentations for customer review and approval.
- Analyze jewelry industry trends, consumer preferences, and market opportunities to help inspire new custom design concepts and collection development.
- Ensure all designs meet aesthetic, structural, manufacturing, stone setting, and quality requirements.
- Modify and refine CAD designs based on customer feedback, stone specifications, and production requirements.
- Work closely with the manufacturing team to ensure smooth transition from CAD design to casting, production, and finishing.
- Prepare technical documentation, stone layouts, dimensions, and production specifications.
- Maintain organized records of customer projects, CAD files, renderings, and design revisions.
- Stay current on jewelry trends, CAD technologies, and manufacturing techniques.
Qualifications
Required
- Minimum 3 years experience designing engagement rings, bridal jewelry, and other custom fine jewelry.
- Proficiency in Rhino, Matrix, Solidworks or similar jewelry specific CAD platforms.
- Strong understanding of jewelry construction, stone setting techniques, casting requirements, and manufacturing processes.
- Ability to create accurate, production ready CAD files with attention to durability, wearability, and aesthetics.
- Customer-facing custom design experience, including consulting with clients, interpreting design ideas, and guiding projects from concept through final approval.
- Experience working directly from customer concepts, sketches, or reference images.
- Excellent communication and collaboration abilities.
- Exceptional attention to detail and ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
Preferred
- Degree or certification in Jewelry Design, CAD Design, Industrial Design, or a related field.
- Knowledge of diamonds, colored gemstones, and precious metals.
- Experience working in a custom jewelry manufacturing environment.

Compensation
Compensation will be based on experience, technical expertise, portfolio quality, and employment status.
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $50,000.00 – $65,000.00 per year
