Job Summary:We are seeking a highly motivated and creative Service Design Specialist to join our team. The ideal candidate will contribute to designing and facilitating co-creation sessions, conducting user-centered research, and creating innovative service solutions for government and citizen-focused initiatives. This role offers a unique opportunity to apply service design principles to complex challenges, delivering solutions that enhance user experiences and support mission-critical outcomes.
Key Responsibilities:
Co-Creation Facilitation: Lead and support the design and facilitation of co-creation sessions, including immersion workshops, journey mapping, and service blueprinting
User Engagement and Research: Conduct and guide service design research activities such as observations, interviews, surveys, and diaries to gain deep insights into user needs and challenges
Design Challenges and Ideation: Frame design challenges, facilitate brainstorming sessions, challenge existing concepts, and envision innovative service design solutions
Rapid Prototyping and Evaluation: Develop, test, and refine prototypes that align with user needs and project objectives
Narrative Creation and Communication: Develop compelling narratives that articulate value propositions for citizens and government stakeholders through service models, customer journeys, storyboards, system maps, wireframes, and interactive prototypes
Required Qualifications:
Must be able to come to the office in the National Capitol Region once per week
Bachelor’s degree in Design, Human-Centered Design, Social Sciences, or a related field
0-3 years of experience in service design, user experience design, or related roles
Foundational knowledge of service design principles and research methods
Strong communication and storytelling skills to convey complex concepts effectively
Proficiency in using design tools (e.g., Adobe Creative Suite, Miro, Figma) is a plus
Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment and engage with diverse stakeholders
Preferred Skills:
Current or past VA Badge or PIV card
Experience facilitating workshops or co-creation sessions
Knowledge of user-centered design and human-centered research methodologies
Familiarity with prototyping tools and techniques
