Junior Designer & Product Development Assistant Jobs in Honolulu, HI at Aloha Kira / Kira x Miffy
We are looking for a meticulous, creative Junior Designer to join our team! In this role, you will help design and develop a diverse mix of physical products—ranging from apparel and fashion accessories to hard goods and giftable items.
While you bring core design skills, strong color sense, and creative vision, we are happy to train you on the end-to-end product development process. If you have an obsessive eye for detail, top-notch written communication, and mastery of Illustrator and Photoshop, we want to hear from you!
Key Responsibilities
1. Design Execution
- Create precise vector artwork, technical flats, and production-ready files using Adobe Illustrator and Adobe Photoshop.
- Develop original graphic art, illustrations, prints, and repeating patterns for in-house collections as well as licensed character collaborations (such as Kira x Miffy).
- Carefully inspect physical samples for accurate color matching (Pantones), material texture, print alignment, and trim/hardware details.
- Assist in building seasonal mood boards, developing color palettes, and brainstorming fresh product concepts.
2. Product Development & Inventory Tracking
- Maintain detailed product spec sheets, tech packs, and production trackers in Google Sheets.
- Monitor stock levels and identify bestselling items ready for reorder.
- Draft and issue routine product reorder details to manufacturing partners to keep inventory seamless.
3. Vendor Communication & Quality Control
- Write clear, articulate, and professional email correspondence to domestic and overseas vendors regarding sample feedback, design adjustments, and timelines.
- Log and organize physical sample submissions to ensure high-quality standards from prototype to final production.
Qualifications & Requirements
- Software Skills: High proficiency in Adobe Illustrator and Adobe Photoshop. Solid working knowledge of Google Sheets (or MS Excel).
- Background: Degree or background in Graphic Design, Fashion Design, Industrial Design, or a related visual field (2 years of working experience preferred).
- Obsessive Eye for Detail: Ability to spot minute discrepancies in print execution, stitch lines, or shade differences.
- Strong Written Communication: Ability to write clear, concise, and structured notes/emails (essential when working with overseas factory partners).
- Organized & Eager to Learn: Comfortable switching gears between creative design work and structured tracking/reorders.
