Job Description
Summary/objective:
The Massage Therapist position will perform massages, beauty treatments, and wellness therapies, depending on guests’ needs and preferences. The position’s responsibilities include greeting and welcoming spa guests, informing guests of spa packages, promotions, and rates, and customizing treatments and therapies to suit guests’ needs. You should also be able to recommend additional spa services and up‑sell spa products.
Essential Functions
- Greet each guest, enthusiastically and with a smile to create a friendly positive experience.
- Conforms to AAA Four Diamond Standards.
- To perform all massage and body work services including table and chair massage, body treatments, bath treatments, foot treatments following the established protocols, and allotted treatment times.
- Explain massages, treatments, and therapies to guests and provide suitable recommendations as needed.
- Enquire about guests’ medical conditions and allergies before providing spa services.
- Communicate with guests during massages to adjust massage techniques as required.
- When appropriate, up‑sell products and services.
- Resolve guest complaints and report any accidents to the supervisor.
- Maintain detailed records of massages, treatments, and therapies performed on each spa guest.
- Understand and respond to all guest needs and requests in a timely and professional manner.
- Consistently offer the highest level of personalized guest service while maintaining an enthusiastic and helpful attitude.
- Prescribe in written format home‑care products and treatments as appropriate.
- Adhere to appointments in a timely manner by monitoring the time schedule.
- Maintain product knowledge to promote and sell spa and salon services, and retail products.
- Clean and sanitise work areas, change treatment room sheets, and sterilise all instruments and equipment before each use.
- Ensure that the spa is adequately stocked with spa supplies and report shortages to the supervisor.
- Conserve and monitor supplies and assets of the Saybrook Point Resort & Marina.
- Arrive and set up appropriate workstations, equipment, and supplies at least 15 minutes prior to the start of the first scheduled appointment, but no more than 30 minutes prior.
- Perform opening and closing checklists, replenish supplies, clean equipment, and re‑stock laundry.
- Assist in the training of other team members as directed.
- Assist with special projects, events, and promotions as needed.
- Use available time to help with spa operations as requested.
- Report to management all inappropriate guest behavior immediately.
- Understand the requirements for meeting inappropriate guest behavior such as knowing how to immediately suspend the service. Provocative behavior or language by guests will result in immediate termination of service.
- Report all suspicious occurrences and hazardous conditions immediately.
- Attend all mandatory meetings and training sessions as scheduled.
- Perform all other duties as assigned by management.
- Fully aware of and comply with Inn’s policies and procedures as identified in the procedure manual and handbook.
- Adhere to all Health and Safety policies and procedures.
Work Environment
- Working conditions are based in a hospitality setting.
- Associates may be exposed to weather conditions prevalent at the time.
- Noise level in work environment is usually moderate.
- Exposure to cleaning solvents, chemicals, essential oils, and other spa related products.
Physical Demands
- Stand, move, and work throughout the spa treatment area and property, including walking up to 1 ½ mile, climbing stairs, and standing for long periods of time.
