Job Overview
The Merchandise Design Intern will assist the design team in creating and developing merchandise concepts that align with the company’s brand identity and target market. The intern will gain hands-on experience in product design, graphic design, and the merchandising process, while contributing to the development of a wide range of products from concept to production.
Key Responsibilities
Assist in the design and development of product concepts for various merchandise categories (e.g., apparel, accessories, home goods).
Create detailed product sketches, technical drawings, and design mock-ups using design software (e.g., Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop).
Work closely with the design team to brainstorm new merchandise ideas and trends.
Assist in preparing presentations and design boards for product pitches or team meetings.
Conduct market and trend research to gather insights for new merchandise designs.
Help with the creation of print designs, patterns, and graphics for merchandise.
Coordinate with the production team to ensure designs meet quality standards and are ready for manufacturing.
Provide support in the creation and maintenance of design files and assets.
Assist with the sourcing of materials and fabrics for design projects.
Assist with the review of sample products and provide feedback for design refinements.
Ensure that all designs are aligned with brand guidelines and messaging.
Stay up-to-date with industry trends and competitive products.
Assist in any other design-related tasks as needed.
Qualifications
Currently pursuing or recently graduated with a degree in Graphic Design, Fashion Design, Industrial Design, or a related field.
Strong interest in product design, fashion, or graphic design.
Proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite (Illustrator, Photoshop, InDesign).
Strong attention to detail and creativity in design concepts.
Ability to sketch and illustrate design ideas clearly.
Knowledge of basic design principles (color theory, typography, layout, etc.).
Good communication skills and ability to collaborate in a team environment.
Organizational skills and ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
A portfolio showcasing design work (graphic design, merchandise designs, fashion sketches, etc.) is highly preferred.
Preferred Skills
Experience with 3D modeling or other design software (e.g., Rhino, CAD).
Familiarity with the merchandising or fashion industry.
Knowledge of the production process, including fabric and material sourcing.
Strong understanding of branding and visual identity.
