About the Role

The Merchandise Planning Manager is responsible for leading planning strategy across both wholesale and direct-to-consumer retail channels. This role drives financial performance through inventory optimization, demand forecasting, assortment planning, and cross-functional partnership. The Planning Manager ensures that product investments align with brand growth goals while balancing channel-specific needs across eCommerce, retail stores, and wholesale partners.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and own seasonal and annual merchandise financial plans across retail and wholesale channels
  • Forecast demand and manage inventory flow to support sales, margin, and turn targets
  • Analyze performance by channel, category, and product lifecycle to identify risks and opportunities
  • Partner closely with Merchandising, Wholesale Sales, Supply Chain, Production, and Finance teams
  • Lead open-to-buy management and recommend in-season adjustments including reorders and markdown strategies
  • Support assortment architecture and buy depth decisions based on channel strategy and historical performance
  • Drive allocation and replenishment strategies for retail locations and eCommerce
  • Monitor wholesale partner performance including sell-through, inventory commitments, and shipment timing
  • Build and present weekly and monthly business recaps with actionable recommendations
  • Mentor and develop junior planners or analysts as the planning function scales

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in business, Finance, Merchandising, Economics, or related field
  • 5+ years of experience in merchandise planning or inventory planning within apparel or fashion retail
  • Experience supporting both wholesale and direct-to-consumer business models
  • Strong understanding of retail math including sell-through, weeks of supply, inventory turn, and margin optimization
  • Advanced Excel skills and experience working with planning or ERP systems
  • Ability to translate data insights into clear business strategies
  • Strong communication skills and comfort presenting to senior leadership
