INTERNSHIP DETAILS
- Duration: June 2026 – August 2026 (with the opportunity to convert to full-time post graduation)
- Time Commitment: Open to Full-Time or Part-Time, dependent on school schedule and graduation date
- Pay: $16 per hour
- Location: Boston Heights, OH (required on-site)
INTERNSHIP OVERVIEW
During the Summer 2026 Merchandise Planning internship, you’ll gain hands-on experience as a member of our Planning Team within the Furniture/Wood category. Reporting to a Planning Leader, you’ll be directly involved in the planning and inventory management process – monitoring inventory levels to maximize stock position and minimize unproductive inventory, tracking purchase orders from creation of the order to receipt in the warehouse, and assisting to ensure that financial strategies and goals are achieved. This role will give you exposure to multiple parts of the business as you collaborate cross-functionally with buying, product development, industrial design, sourcing, marketing, and store operations.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
The ideal Merchandise Planning Intern candidate is curious, innovative, results-oriented, and focused on delivering a best in class customer experience through their work in executing strategy and exceeding financial targets.
Key fundamental skill sets for this role will be:
TACTICAL MANAGEMENT
- Generate Purchase Orders with guidance from the Merchandise Planner.
- Use financial and quantitative information to optimize inventory receipt flow to adhere with warehouse receiving constraints.
- Partner with vendors to optimize shipping parameters based on business needs.
- Maintain forecasts and ordering constraints for all vendors and items.
- Track and manage open Purchase Orders and regularly follow up with Vendors on shipping status.
- Report on late shipments and work with Sourcing and Buying to resolve any ongoing issues.
- Work with Planner to monitor sales and inventory levels and adjust purchase orders accordingly to drive sales and profitability.
ANALYTICAL FOCUS
- Create and generate reports, analysis and scenarios to drive inventory strategy decisions, understand trends and facilitate planning team deliverables.
- Generate and analyze weekly, monthly, quarterly, and seasonal sales reporting.
- Analyze historical and current trends to identify risks and opportunities; partner with Manager to develop action plan to achieve department goals.
- Assist Merchandise Planner with executing markdown and promotional strategies and store replenishment.
Requirements:
- Has an expected graduation date of August 2026 or December 2026
- Business, Finance, or adjacent major
- Excellent communication skills
- Strong attention to detail
- Highly analytical and curious
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite – emphasis on Excel & Outlook
- Excellent time management skills
- Prior experience in retail inventory software is a plus.
- Customer Service or prior retail experience is a plus.
