About the role

To manage all merchandise issues associated with specific product groups in order to maximise sales and profit through the effective planning and control of intake, stock levels, margin, discount mark down and distribution.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Range Planning

Generate product range plans/lines buys from the company sales plan and work closely with the buyer to ensure the range reflects known and projected market/fashion trends

Work closely with Buying to make sure all KPI’s are achieved i.e. intake margin

Plan sales markdown and stock by week, ensuring intake and forward stocks are achieved, whilst controlling terminal stocks.

Plan the range having regard for colour, price, size and other relevant criteria peculiar to a product area.

Ensure the range content provides adequate width and depth of offer in terms of colour, price point and choice across all stores. Bring to affect a minimum credible range for all stores.

To plan promotional buys and liaise with buyers and other product teams on timing.

Store Planning

Generate store sales in line with the company sales plan

Initiate grading tables based on the turnover, space and store profit

Ensure grading tables are updated at a minimum of, every three months to take account of current trends in order to potentialise sales

Ensure good communication to Retail regarding deliveries

Analysis

Analyse sales/stock/markdown/ margin performance weekly down to line level and react accordingly

Reforecast regularly to reflect current trends and react accordingly. Update WSSI.

Run effective line monitors on continuing lines and liaise effectively with suppliers regarding lead times.

Regular monitor attributes such as colour/size/ heel height etc and react accordingly

Prepare ‘birds eye view’ and planning documents

Distribution

Plan shop distribution ensuring each store receives a credible range of merchandise. To over see the use and maintenance of the distribution system by the department and review stock levels against requirements.

Oversee the smooth flow of stock in stores, with maximising potential through initial allocation, replenishment, and identify stock for outlets.

General

Oversee the planning of opening stock packages for new or modernise stores and oversee the allocation of this merchandise in line with the company procedures

Ensure accuracy is maintained at all levels in the departments

Liaise with other functions such as Retail Operations, Warehouse and Marketing to maximise sales through effective communication

Help recruit, appraise and train team, managing Assistant Merchandisers and Allocators

Maintain good working relationships with other departments in Head Office
