Reports To: Pattern Shop Supervisor
Job Purpose
Production of wooden patterns for casting, selection of wooden pattern materials, operation of woodworking machines, preparation of loft drawings for wooden patterns, maintaining safe wooden pattern operations, and manufacturing wooden patterns for CNC machine operation.
Job Responsibilities
Design & Fabrication
- Study drawings and pattern design requirements before fabrication.
- Manufacture and mount wooden, resin, and metal patterns and core boxes as per approved drawings.
- Carry out repair, modification, and maintenance of existing patterns.
Inspection & Quality
- Conduct dimensional inspection of shrinkage allowance, machining allowance, draft angles, and parting lines for patterns.
- Support trial activities and incorporate technical feedback.
Storage & Safety
- Conduct pattern identification, storage, and preservation.
- Follow safety and housekeeping requirements in the pattern shop.
Authority
- Stop work if drawing, dimensions, material, or tooling requirements are unclear.
- Request clarification or revision from supervisor or design engineer.
- Reject damaged or nonconforming raw material used for pattern making.
Accountability
- Accuracy of manufactured pattern versus approved drawing.
- Proper identification and preservation of patterns.
- Compliance with safety and 5S requirements.
Requirements
Education & Experience
- Vocational or Diploma degree in Pattern Making or Carpentry.
- Minimum 5 years of experience in making wooden patterns.
- Experience working with woodworking machines.
- Experience manufacturing patterns for cast iron, cast steel, and automatic line production products.
Technical Knowledge & Skills
- Ability to plan wood pattern methods.
- Capable of performing pattern dimensional inspection.
- Knowledge of metal materials.
- Awareness of American Petroleum Institute (API) standards and their application to casting metallurgy.
- Understanding of API 20A requirements and their practical implementation in materials and production.
Language
- English language essential for communication.
