Role Overview
The Product Developer – Production is responsible for developing, coordinating, and managing core apparel products for GQ. This role ensures product feasibility, cost efficiency, production quality, and on-time delivery while closely collaborating with internal teams and external suppliers.
Responsibilities
Product Development & Production Coordination
- Lead end-to-end product development for GQ from concept, material selection, sampling, costing, to production handover.
- Evaluate product feasibility, production capabilities, and recommended solutions to meet company expectations on design, quality, and cost.
- Coordinate sampling processes with factories and vendors; ensure samples meet quality, functionality, and design requirements.
- Work with production teams to ensure accurate material allocation, pattern development, and production planning.
Costing & Commercial Support
- Prepare preliminary and final product costing based on materials, trims, labor, and production processes.
- Recommend cost-saving options, alternative materials, or production methods without compromising product quality.
Quality Control & Technical Assurance
- Work closely with QA/QC teams to ensure products comply with GQ standards and customer specifications.
- Conduct fit sessions, product testing, and risk assessments to ensure product readiness before mass production.
- Troubleshoot production issues and propose corrective actions to minimize rework or delays.
Cross-functional Collaboration
- Partner with internal teams including Sales, Production, Merchandising, Supply Chain, and Design to ensure smooth workflow and project alignment.
- Collaborate with vendors, factories, and material suppliers to secure timely production and quality assurance.
Project & Timeline Management
- Manage multiple GQ product development projects simultaneously with clear timelines and deliverables.
- Ensure all milestones—sampling, approvals, production, and shipment—are completed on schedule.
- Maintain accurate documentation including BOM, technical packs, sample records, cost sheets, and approval logs.
Continuous Improvement
- Identify opportunities to enhance product development processes, reduce lead times, and improve production efficiency.
- Stay updated on new materials, technologies, and production methods relevant to apparel innovation and GQ project needs.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Textile Engineering, Apparel Production, Fashion Technology, Industrial Engineering, or related fields.
- Minimum 5 years of experience in product development or apparel production
- High-level English proficiency is mandatory, while the ability to speak Chinese is a highly valued advantage.
- Strong understanding of garment construction, sewing techniques, materials, trims, production processes, and quality standards.
- Ability to interpret and create technical packs, patterns, and production specifications.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with attention to detail.
- Effective communication skills and ability to work with cross-functional teams and external partners.
