The Product Development Manager is responsible for overseeing the end-to-end product development process from concept through production for all swimwear, resortwear, and accessory categories. This role serves as the primary liaison between Design, Production, Merchandising, and overseas manufacturing partners to ensure products are developed on time, within budget, and to the highest quality standards.

The ideal candidate is highly organized, detail-oriented, and experienced in apparel product development with a strong understanding of fabrics, garment construction, fit, costing, and production timelines.

Key ResponsibilitiesProduct Development

  • Manage the product development calendar and ensure all milestones are met.
  • Oversee development from initial design concept through bulk production approval.
  • Create and maintain detailed tech packs, BOMs, and development documentation.
  • Partner closely with Design to execute product vision while maintaining commercial viability.
  • Source fabrics, trims, embellishments, and packaging components with suppliers.
  • Review prototypes, fit samples and production samples.

Key ResponsibilitiesProduct Development

  • Manage the product development calendar and ensure all milestones are met.
  • Oversee development from initial design concept through bulk production approval.
  • Create and maintain detailed tech packs, BOMs (Bills of Materials), and development documentation.
  • Partner closely with Design to execute product vision while maintaining commercial viability.
  • Source fabrics, trims, embellishments, and packaging components with suppliers.
  • Negotiate development timelines, MOQ requirements, and costing.
  • Review prototypes, fit samples, and production samples.
  • Track all samples and communicate feedback to factories in a timely manner.
  • Coordinate fit sessions and document fit comments.
  • Identify and resolve quality concerns throughout the development process.
  • Ensure all products meet brand quality expectations and compliance requirements.
  • Analyze product costing and identify opportunities for margin improvement.
  • Work with suppliers to negotiate costs while maintaining quality standards.
  • Track development expenses and monitor target margins across product categories.
  • Develop and implement efficient product development processes and workflows.
  • Maintain accurate product data and development records.
  • Identify opportunities to improve speed-to-market and operational efficiency.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Fashion Merchandising, Fashion Design, Product Development, or related field.
  • 2-4+ years of apparel product development experience, preferably within swimwear, resortwear, or contemporary fashion.
  • Strong understanding of garment construction, textiles, fit, and manufacturing processes.
  • Experience working directly with overseas factories and suppliers.
  • Ability to manage multiple product categories and seasonal calendars simultaneously.
  • Strong organizational, communication, and project management skills.
  • Detail-oriented with exceptional follow-through.
