Hair Stylist Skills and Qualifications:
Strong foundation and passion for hair with at least five years of work experience as a Hairstylist, Hairdresser, Colorist, or similar role
Proficiency in hair straightening and curling methods, using hot irons and curlers
Must have customer service experience, knowing how to properly greet in-person and over the phone
Must understand the importance of “upselling” and building rapport with clients.
The ability to communicate compassionately with customers and understand a look they want, even if they don’t know the technical terms for a certain style.
Hands-on experience with various coloring techniques.
Experience using different types of scissors, trimmers, and other tools to create hairstyles.
An understanding of the different types of hairstyles a person can request and how to properly achieve those looks without damage.
A willingness to learn about new styles and techniques that prevent damage and increase long-term client hair health.
Excellent communication skills with clients and staff; showing accountability for being clear, direct, and professional at all times.
Ability to stand for long hours while keeping a positive attitude.
Ability to take initiative and go above and beyond the Standard Operating Procedures
Duties and Responsibilities:
Ability to engage customers and identify their preferences by asking pointed questions that help you build rapport and execute the client’s desired style
Form bonds with loyal customers and remember their hairstyle preferences; upselling products that are used to create their desired style and increase their hair health
Consult customers about styles and colors and apply hair care products, like treatment oils and masks
Communicate with customers to understand their exact needs, and apply previously acquired knowledge to recommend the best styles for clients.
Give clients advice on how to maintain a hairstyle or look and explain the best strategies used to maintain hair health and why it’s important to keep in mind.
Ensure that all customers leave our salon invigorated, refreshed, and satisfied with our services and feel happy with their new looks.
Cross-sell/Upsell hair care products or services, when appropriate
Must be up-to-date with industry trends (Syles, Health, Maintenance, etc.)
Properly cut, trim, and shave hair using basic and advanced techniques and professional equipment while keeping the area and client clean
