Role Description The Sample Room Machinist is a full-time, on-site role based in London. This position is responsible for sewing and constructing development samples and show pieces to a high standard, following patterns, technical specifications, and cooperating with the production team. Day-to-day tasks include operating industrial sewing machines, assembling garments, applying finishes, and troubleshooting construction challenges to achieve the intended fit and silhouette and sample room organisation. The role involves working closely with designers, pattern cutters, and production staff to refine prototypes and support fittings, adjustments, and fabric trials. The Sample Room Machinist also maintains machinery, monitors quality, and helps ensure that samples accurately represent the final production standards.

Qualifications

  • Strong garment construction skills, including experience with tailored, structured, and complex designs.
  • Proficiency in operating industrial sewing machines and related equipment (e.g., overlock, coverstitch, pressing tools).
  • Ability to interpret patterns, technical packs, and design sketches with attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Experience working in a sample room or studio environment within fashion, preferably contemporary or designer brands.
  • Solid understanding of fabrics, trims, and finishing techniques, including handling delicate and innovative materials.
  • Good communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work closely with design and pattern cutting teams.
  • Strong time management, organization, and the ability to prioritize tasks to meet sample deadlines.
  • Commitment to quality, problem-solving mindset, and flexibility to adapt to evolving design requirements.
  • Relevant vocational training or qualification in garment technology, fashion production, or a related field is beneficial.
  • Previous experience in London-based or international fashion houses is an advantage.
  • Excellent proficiency in English, additional languages Bulgarian or Japanese a plus.
