Full Job Description
We are seeking a Senior Manager of Technical Design to join the Orvis Team! This is a remote role with an expectation of a minimum of three trips to Southern Vermont per year for our Design Development Review cadence.
As the Senior Manager of Technical Design at Orvis, you will play a pivotal role in leading our apparel transformation. You will be responsible for leading the Technical Design Team across Men’s and Women’s Apparel, Fishing and Hunting and ensure fit excellence across all categories. You will oversee two Technical Designers as well as managing 2-4 subcategories yourself. You will determine if and when freelance design help may be needed. You will be vital in helping to lead the flawless execution of our apparel product, celebrating our authenticity and heritage, and inspiring our team and our customers with exceptional fitting, high quality, elevated products. You will lead the Technical Design team to adopt new pattern-making and 2D/3D software, and use your expertise in this software to train, coach and support the Orvis TD team. You will ensure fit consistency, oversee pattern block development, and partner with garment factories on best technical design practices utilizing skills in grading/specifications, fit construction, fabrics, sewing operations, and the creation of detailed technical packages. You will partner with our Product Leadership Team to create clear roles and responsibilities, define our new processes, and lead us to a faster product-to-market process.

Position Interfaces:
This position reports to our Vice President of Sourcing, Product Development and Technical Design. This role leads our Technical Design Team comprised of 2 Technical Designers. This role partners very closely with our Merchandising, Product Development, Design and Sourcing teams.
Responsibilities:
Technically design product that will delight and inspire our customers.
Create and lead a customer-obsessed Technical Design Team.
Lead a culture of partnership and collaboration with our cross functional teams including Merchandising, Product Development, Design and Sourcing.
Create relationships across our categories in Fish, Hunt and Dog to ensure we deliver a One Orvis experience and fit for our customers.
Help establish new roles and responsibilities across the Orvis Product Team.
Coach the Technical Design Team, provide consistent and candid feedback to ensure great partnership and collaboration with cross functional partners. Guide team to have effective communication and influence in order to deliver inspired, exceptional fitting product while also helping lead flawless execution.
Teach and train TD team on pattern making software and 2D/3D software
Create an Orvis pattern library, ensuring we have patterns for all garments we produce. Regularly compare the patterns to ensure consistency.
