About the Role
Rebecca Taylor is seeking a Senior Technical Designer to lead and elevate the technical development of our garments from concept through production. This role requires a seasoned expert who can blend deep technical knowledge with collaborative leadership to maintain our high-quality standards and ensure the perfect fit across all our products.
As Director, you’ll be responsible for leading and mentoring a team of technical designers, providing direction, oversight, and coaching to ensure excellence across all categories. You’ll work cross-functionally with design, product development, and global vendor partners to maintain consistency, quality, and brand integrity at every stage of the product lifecycle.
What You'll Do
- Lead and manage a team of technical designers, setting priorities and reviewing work to ensure all garments meet fit and quality expectations.
- Provide technical guidance on garment specifications, patterns, construction techniques, and production methods.
- Ensure fit, balance, and construction quality are optimized across all products.
- Collaborate closely with overseas vendors to align on development, fit, and construction throughout the product lifecycle.
- Partner with design and product development teams to ensure that product specs are both creative and technically feasible.
- Create and manage comprehensive technical packages, including detailed construction instructions that meet Rebecca Taylor standards.
- Establish and maintain quality control standards, ensuring all finished products meet brand expectations.
- Drive process improvements and innovation in fit, margin, and development efficiency.
Qualifications
- Associate’s degree in Fashion Design, Technical Design, or a related field (Bachelor’s degree preferred).
- 10+ years of experience in technical design, with at least 3+ years in a leadership role.
- Proficient in Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop, and Microsoft Excel.
- Strong knowledge of pattern making, garment construction, fit analysis, and production timelines.
- Experience managing technical design teams and providing mentorship and performance feedback.
- Proven ability to collaborate with global vendors and lead cross-functional initiatives.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills—you thrive in team environments and can influence with clarity.
- Detail-oriented, organized, and passionate about elevating product excellence.
