Overview

Social Media Strategist Jobs in Barcelona, Catalonia, Spain at Lexa

Title: Social Media Strategist

Company: Lexa

Location: Barcelona, Catalonia, Spain

Role overview

Lexa is looking for a full-time Social Media Strategist to lead the development of original, platform-specific social strategies for the agency and its clients, based in barcelona.

This role will sit across Creative, PR and Partnerships, translating wider brand strategies, creative concepts, campaigns and activations into relevant and actionable social media plans.

The Social Media Strategist will bring dedicated expertise and allocated time to an area that requires continuous attention. They will understand how brands can use social media with purpose, developing bespoke content systems rather than applying the same formats or trends to every account.

The ideal candidate combines strong social media knowledge with solid marketing experience, cultural awareness and a clear editorial point of view. They should be strategic and analytical, but equally capable of turning ideas into realistic calendars, formats, briefs and publishing plans.

This is not a purely operational community management role. It requires someone who can contribute meaningfully to brand and campaign thinking while taking ownership of how that thinking is developed across social platforms.

Reporting and collaboration

The Social Media Strategist will work closely with:

  • The Head of Creative and creative team on strategy, concepts, art direction and visual communication.
  • PR on talent, profiles, editorial opportunities, launches, announcements and cultural moments.
  • Partnerships on client needs, collaborations, branded content and new business opportunities.
  • Account and production teams to ensure proposed content is realistic, properly planned and delivered on time.

The role will follow the overarching creative direction established by the creative department while bringing specialist social media insight into the process from the beginning of each project.

Key responsibilities

Client social strategy

  • Develop bespoke social media strategies for Lexa’s clients based on their objectives, audiences, positioning and wider brand strategy.
  • Translate campaigns, shoots, events and activations into clear social media ecosystems.
  • Define the role of each platform within a broader communication plan.
  • Identify original recurring formats, editorial series and social-first opportunities appropriate to each brand.
  • Build content pillars, publishing structures and channel recommendations.
  • Develop practical content calendars that account for production needs, deadlines and available assets.
  • Ensure social media is considered from the beginning of a project rather than added after the core concept has been developed.
  • Present strategies and content plans clearly to internal teams and clients.

Lexa channels

  • Develop and maintain a clear social media strategy for Lexa.
  • Establish a consistent publishing rhythm and editorial structure across the agency’s channels.
  • Identify opportunities to communicate Lexa’s work, perspective, team, partnerships and cultural relevance.
  • Work with Creative and PR to turn projects, events, pitches and agency activity into strong social content.
  • Create formats that give Lexa a recognizable and considered social presence.
  • Maintain an active overview of upcoming agency moments and plan content around them proactively.

Platform and audience expertise

  • Maintain a strong understanding of platform behavior, emerging formats and changes in audience habits.
  • Distinguish between short-lived trends and more meaningful shifts in how people use and respond to social media.
  • Bring relevant platform insights into creative and strategic conversations.
  • Advise teams and clients on appropriate formats, publishing behavior and audience expectations.
  • Ensure recommendations remain specific to each brand rather than relying on generic best practices.

Performance and optimization

  • Establish relevant objectives and metrics for social media activity.
  • Review content performance and identify useful learnings.
  • Turn performance data into clear recommendations for future content.
  • Prepare concise reports that explain what worked, what did not and what should be adjusted.
  • Balance quantitative results with broader brand, cultural and communication objectives.

Candidate profile

The ideal candidate will have:

  • Proven experience developing social media strategies for brands, agencies or cultural organizations.
  • A strong foundation in marketing, communications or brand strategy.
  • A sophisticated understanding of how different platforms operate and how audience behavior varies across them.
  • Experience creating content strategies, calendars, format systems and campaign plans.
  • The ability to connect social media thinking to wider brand, creative and business objectives.
  • Strong presentation skills and the ability to communicate strategic recommendations clearly.
  • An understanding of production processes and what is required to turn a content plan into deliverable assets, briefing creators and photographers.
  • Cultural curiosity and an informed perspective on music, fashion, design, art and contemporary culture.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English. Spanish is highly valued.

What success looks like

Success in this role would mean:

  • Client social strategies are more specific, original and actionable.
  • Social media is integrated into projects from the initial strategic and creative stages.
  • Lexa’s own channels communicate the agency’s work and perspective consistently.
  • Creative productions generate a stronger and more useful range of social assets.
  • Clients receive clear recommendations supported by platform and audience expertise.
  • Creative, PR and Partnerships have a dedicated specialist with ownership of social planning.
  • The creative team can focus more deeply on strategy, concepts, art direction, campaigns, shoots, events, activations and visual communication.
  • Social media develops into a credible and valuable part of Lexa’s client offering.
