About the Role:
We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Softgoods Designer to join our team in Sterling Heights, MI. In this role, you will collaborate with engineering design teams to develop innovative soft trim textile products for the automotive industry. This position requires expertise in textile pattern development, sewing techniques, and product engineering from concept to production.
Key Responsibilities:
Product Development: Development of soft trim products from concept through production, ensuring design feasibility, functionality, and quality.
Design Analysis & Improvement: Evaluate new and existing designs to identify enhancement opportunities, implementing and coordinating necessary changes to improve performance and innovation.
Manufacturing Support: Provide guidance, instructions, to manufacturing teams to resolve construction/assembly issues, particularly during pilot runs. Support inspection processes to ensure finished product quality.
Collaboration: Participate in engineering meetings and cross-functional team discussions as required.
Pattern Development: Develop new patterns for complex folding mechanisms and other custom design requirements.
Qualifications:
Experience: Minimum 5 years of experience in the automotive industry.
Technical Skills:
Proficiency in operating a variety of sewing machines and other soft trim-related tools.
Strong expertise in textile pattern development.
Experience with GerberAccuMark pattern design software and digitizing is a plus.
Communication Skills: Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Interpersonal Skills: Strong collaboration abilities to work effectively across teams.
Project Management: Ability to manage deadlines and prioritize tasks efficiently.
Physical Requirements:
Ability to drape, stretch, fit, sew, and install large, heavy fabric assemblies.
Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.
