Softgoods Designer Jobs in Worcester, MA at Connexion Systems and Engineering, Inc.
Our client is seeking a Softgoods Designer to support the development of highly engineered, technical products and protective equipment. This role is ideal for a designer with strong pattern-making, CAD, materials, and prototype development experience who enjoys working cross-functionally from concept through production.
What You’ll Do:
- Lead the design and development of technical softgoods and protective products.
- Create, develop, and refine patterns for new and existing products.
- Develop design concepts with consideration for functionality, fit, materials, manufacturability, cost, and customer requirements.
- Create and refine patterns, including pattern grading and designs intended to fit the human form.
- Collaborate with engineers, technicians, quality, and manufacturing teams to evaluate and refine designs.
- Research materials and assist with developing material specifications.
- Coordinate prototype fabrication, testing, and evaluation.
- Assist with engineering and production documentation.
- Troubleshoot production issues and recommend design or material changes.
- Serve as a technical resource within the design team and assist with daily workflow as needed.
What We’re Looking For:
- Bachelor’s degree in Design, Textiles, Fashion Design, or a related field.
- 2+ years of experience in softgoods design, pattern design, or CAD preferred.
- Strong experience with pattern creation and grading.
- Ability to design products intended to fit the human form.
- Experience with softgoods manufacturing techniques such as stitching, cementing, ultrasonic/RF sealing, and related fabrication methods.
- Ability to read and interpret mechanical drawings related to softgoods products.
- Proficiency with Gerber Pattern Design or similar CAD software.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Excel and Word.
- Strong attention to detail, organization, analytical thinking, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with cross-functional teams.
