Career path: Potential evolution toward Studio Manager

We are an independent Paris- and New York-based couture house working at the intersection of craftsmanship, sustainability and contemporary design.

We are looking for a highly organized, proactive and hands-on Studio Operations & Production Coordinator to become a core part of the daily operations of the house.

*This is not a purely administrative position, nor are we looking for another creative designer.

We are looking for someone who understands that in a couture environment, precision, discretion, care and consistency matter at every level — from the development of couture pieces to the organization of the studio.

The role will begin with a structured onboarding and training period, with the opportunity to progressively develop into a long-term Studio Manager / key operational role within the couture house.

The Role

You will help create and maintain the structure that allows our creative and technical teams to perform at their highest level.

In an independent couture house, responsibilities naturally overlap. We therefore need someone who can move comfortably between studio organization, production coordination, technical communication and day-to-day problem solving.

Studio Organization & Couture Standards

  • Maintain an exceptionally organized, functional and calm studio environment
  • Establish and maintain clear systems for fabrics, trims, embroidery, samples, patterns, tools, archive pieces and works in progress
  • Ensure delicate materials, couture garments and one-of-a-kind pieces are handled, stored and tracked with appropriate care
  • Maintain high standards of studio organization, cleanliness and tool management
  • Implement and uphold the house’s sustainability, recycling and waste-management practices
  • Organize scraps, leftover materials and reusable components so valuable materials are preserved whenever possible
  • Anticipate operational problems and propose practical solutions before they interrupt the workflow

Production & Atelier Coordination

  • Coordinate day-to-day communication with freelance seamstresses, pattern makers, suppliers, artisans and other external collaborators
  • Follow the progress of samples, fittings, alterations and finished pieces
  • Keep production schedules, priorities and deadlines clear and up to date
  • Help prepare the studio for fittings, presentations and important appointments
  • Translate creative and technical priorities into clear, actionable tasks
  • Coordinate and follow up on tasks assigned to interns and collaborators
  • Identify delays, missing information and production risks early
  • Ensure that decisions, changes and technical information are communicated clearly to the relevant people

Technical Understanding

You will not be expected to replace a senior pattern maker or couture seamstress.

However, a strong working understanding of garment construction and couture production is important. You should be technically fluent enough to understand fittings, recognize common production issues and communicate effectively with specialists.

Relevant knowledge may include:

  • Garment construction
  • Fittings and alterations
  • Fabrics and material behavior
  • Pattern-making and draping fundamentals
  • Couture finishing and production processes
  • Technical specifications and production documentation

Digital Organization

  • Maintain clear and logical digital filing systems
  • Organize technical documents, references, production information and project archives
  • Be comfortable working with Adobe Creative Suite
  • Create and maintain simple production trackers, schedules and working documents

Who We’re Looking For

We are particularly interested in someone who is:

  • Exceptionally organized and detail-oriented
  • Naturally attentive to small inconsistencies
  • Proactive rather than waiting to be told what to do
  • Calm and solution-oriented when priorities change
  • Able to manage several parallel workflows without losing track of details
  • Comfortable taking responsibility for a task from beginning to completion
  • Able to prioritize independently
  • Confident enough to respectfully question a decision or working method when necessary
  • Discreet and trustworthy when working around private clients, unreleased collections and confidential information
  • Respectful of couture craftsmanship and the time required to produce exceptional work
  • Comfortable in the hands-on, evolving environment of an independent couture house
  • Interested in creating and improving systems rather than simply following them
  • Genuinely attentive to sustainability in everyday studio practice

Languages

French: professional working proficiency — required

Chinese: full professional fluency — required

English: professional working proficiency — a plus

The ability to communicate naturally between atelier collaborators, suppliers, vendors, partners and interns is an important part of this position.

Experience

Approximately 2–5 years of relevant professional experience is preferred.

Experience within a couture atelier, independent fashion house, sample room, production studio, luxury atelier or small creative company is particularly valuable.

We care less about prestigious company names and more about how you think, organize, communicate and solve problems.

Experience in a small structure where you have had to take initiative, adapt quickly and manage different types of responsibilities is especially relevant.

Growth of the Role

We see this as a position with significant potential for growth.

During the first months, the priority will be to understand the house, its creative process, technical collaborators, standards and working rhythm.

You will progressively take ownership of studio organization, production coordination and day-to-day operations.

For the right person, the role can evolve toward Studio Manager, becoming one of the central operational figures of the couture house.

We are therefore looking for someone interested not simply in joining a fashion company, but in helping build the internal structure of an independent couture house over the long term.

To Apply

Please send your CV together with a short introduction.

Rather than a traditional cover letter, we would appreciate brief answers to the following questions:

1. Tell us about a situation where you inherited a disorganized project, workspace or workflow. What did you do?

2. A couture fitting is scheduled for tomorrow. One component has not arrived, a pattern maker is waiting for a decision, a seamstress has discovered a construction issue, and two interns are waiting for instructions. How would you approach the situation?

3. In a couture studio, what does attention to detail mean to you beyond the garment itself?

4. What does sustainability mean to you in the everyday operation of an atelier?

Selected candidates will be invited to an interview followed by a short practical assessment designed to evaluate organization, prioritization, communication and problem-solving skills before a final hiring decision.
