We are looking to expand our shop team at Joe’s Barber Lounge in Colchester, CT. This location has been a barbershop for 80+ years and is busy.
We specialize in classic and modern cuts, such as tapers, pomps, hard parts, flattops, fades, scissor cuts, and beards. Both clipper work and scissor work are necessary. Our shop does not use straight razors at this time.
We are looking for motivated barbers/stylists with an eye for detail and a positive attitude, someone who has a desire to grow and express their creativity in an established shop. Guiding clients to their desired look while also respecting their wants and needs is a must. The ideal candidate is willing to put in time to perfect craft, thrives in a communal environment, and is willing to integrate themselves into the life and veins of the shop culture. We work hard and enjoy seeing the fruits of our labors rewarded in the form of happy, returning clients. The key to being successful here is being confident yet humble, artistic yet practical, punctual yet understanding that some haircuts and clients demand a little more attention. If you are willing to learn and be guided as we help you achieve your goals and to get you fully booked, then we could be the shop for you.
Professional attire is expected. We execute premium haircuts, and our clients expect a premium experience. That being said, we have a very welcoming atmosphere and a cool vibe in the shop, enjoying the occasional joke, while having fun with our clients and one another. The shop clientele is mostly in the 20-40s demographic, but we service both young gents and seniors in the community.

If you have color skills and are able to provide hair and/or beard coloring services, this would be a plus. If you have a professional Instagram account with a portfolio and post regularly, this is a plus.
We use Squire for booking appointments, and clients can book both online via our website and by calling in. You can check your schedule on your phone app at any time for added convenience and to see your weekly schedule.
The shop is open Monday-Saturday. We are seeking full or part time. Priority availability is Monday, Friday, Saturday.
We use classic Koken chairs. We use Reuzel, Layrite, and Clubman products. We’re old school, not old fashioned.

Qualifications
Proven customer service and communication skills
Proficiency in hair styling, barbering, and sanitation practices
Valid cosmetology or barbering license
Experience with color theory
Ability to manage retail sales
Responsibilities
Provide exceptional customer service by understanding client needs and preferences.
Perform hair styling and barbering services
Maintain a clean and sanitized work environment in accordance with health regulations.
Utilize shop software, such as Squire, for scheduling and client management.
Stay updated on industry trends and techniques
Hourly/Commission options available depending on skill level with growth potential. In addition, you keep 100% of your tips.
