Technical Design Assistant – Performance Apparel
We are seeking a dynamic and detail-oriented Technical Design Assistant to join our product development team. In this role, you will support the creation of high-performance apparel by translating design concepts into production-ready technical packages. Your passion for athletic and performance wear, combined with your technical expertise, will help streamline the product lifecycle from initial concept to production. This paid position offers an exciting opportunity to work closely with designers, pattern makers, materials engineers, and production teams to bring cutting-edge performance apparel to market.
Responsibilities
- Collaborate with designers to interpret creative and functional concepts into technical sketches and detailed specifications using Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Illustrator, and other industry tools
- Build and maintain comprehensive tech packs for each style, including all construction details, callouts, stitch types, hardware, trims, and logo placements
- Prepare and update CAD files for pattern making and garment construction, with attention to articulated fits, range-of-motion requirements, and body-mapped paneling
- Create and manage sample change files, clearly communicating fit corrections, construction revisions, and material updates between development rounds
- Update tech packs in real time as designs evolve, ensuring all teams are working from the most current specifications
- Assist in compiling BOM (Bill of Materials) records, including fabric, trim, labeling, and packaging details
- Contribute to fitting sessions by analyzing garment fit, mobility, and comfort issues and documenting all change requests for the next development round
Experience
- Proven experience with Adobe Creative Suite, especially Photoshop and Illustrator, applied to apparel or product design
- Familiarity with CAD software used in apparel development, such as Gerber, Optitex, CLO 3D, or equivalent platforms
- Knowledge of garment construction techniques relevant to performance apparel, including flatlock and bonded seaming, laser cutting, heat-sealed applications, and stretch fabric handling
- Understanding of technical textiles, including woven and knit performance fabrics, laminates, DWR coatings, and moisture-wicking or thermoregulation technologies
- Experience building or contributing to tech packs and managing sample review processes
Pay: $30.00 per hour
