Job Overview
We are seeking a detail-oriented and experienced Technical Designer to join our women’s apparel team. This role focuses on fit, construction, measurements, tech packs, sample corrections, and vendor communication for women’s apparel products.
The ideal candidate should have strong technical design experience, a deep understanding of garment construction and fit, and the ability to communicate clear corrections to overseas factories. This position will work closely with design, sales, merchandising, production, vendors, and factories to ensure products are production-ready, consistent, and aligned with customer expectations.
This role will support a variety of women’s apparel categories, including tops, bottoms, dresses, sets, and related styles, with a focus on woven and knit garments.
Chinese speaking and typing ability is required, as this position involves regular communication with overseas factories, vendors, and internal team members.
What You Will Do / Responsibilities
- Lead fit sessions and evaluate garments on live models or dress forms.
- Review fit samples, proto samples, PP samples, TOP samples, and production samples.
- Communicate clear, detailed, and illustrated fit comments to overseas factories and vendors.
- Ensure garment fit, construction, workmanship, and quality reflect design intent and customer standards.
- Measure garments accurately and compare samples against approved specs and size charts.
- Track corrections and revisions through all stages, from first fit sample to TOP approval.
- Create, update, and maintain accurate tech packs, BOMs, measurement specs, fit comments, construction details, and fit archives.
- Work closely with vendors and factories to resolve fit, construction, grading, and quality-control issues.
- Review size grading, measurements, tolerances, fabric behavior, stretch, shrinkage, and construction details for woven and knit garments.
- Monitor fit schedules, sample status, time-and-action calendars, and approval deadlines.
- Analyze customer feedback, sales feedback, returns, and quality issues to improve future products.
- Partner with design, production, merchandising, and sales teams to ensure styles meet customer expectations, pricing needs, production requirements, and retail standards.
- Help maintain consistency in fit, sizing, construction, and quality across different women’s apparel categories.
- Support ongoing product development in a fast-paced apparel environment.
Qualifications / Skills
- 3+ years of experience in technical design, pattern-making, fit, and vendor communication is required.
- Chinese speaking and typing ability is required.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills in Chinese for factory and vendor communication.
- Strong experience with women’s apparel, junior apparel, contemporary apparel, wholesale, private-label, or mass-market apparel.
- Strong knowledge of garment construction, sewing techniques, fit, grading, pattern corrections, and measurement specifications.
- Experience with a variety of women’s apparel categories, including tops, bottoms, dresses, sets, and related styles.
- Strong understanding of woven and knit garments, including fabric behavior, stretch, shrinkage, recovery, drape, and construction differences.
- Ability to conduct fit sessions and provide clear fit corrections on live models or dress forms.
- Strong understanding of size grading, garment specs, tolerances, measuring techniques, and fit consistency.
- Ability to create and maintain detailed tech packs, BOMs, fit comments, construction callouts, and measurement charts.
- Strong vendor and factory communication skills, especially with overseas production teams.
- Ability to identify fit, construction, and quality problems and provide practical solutions.
- Proficiency in technical design software and office tools is required, including Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop, Microsoft Excel, Word, Outlook, or Microsoft 365.
- Excellent attention to detail, organization, follow-up, and time-management skills.
- Comfortable working in a fast-paced apparel production and development environment.

- Women’s or junior technical design experience
- Experience with woven and knit women’s apparel
- Experience with tops, bottoms, dresses, sets, and related women’s clothing categories
- Wholesale, private-label, mass-market, or retail apparel experience
- Experience communicating with overseas factories and vendors in Chinese
- Experience creating and maintaining tech packs, BOMs, fit comments, and size specs
- Experience with grading, tolerances, fit consistency, and production quality control

This person should be comfortable communicating in Chinese with overseas factories and vendors, reviewing samples, giving clear corrections, managing tech packs, and solving fit or construction issues quickly. They should be able to work across different women’s apparel categories, especially woven and knit garments, in a fast-paced production environment where timing, accuracy, communication, and fit consistency are critical.
Pay: $54,000.00 – $66,000.00 per year
